Driver PR: Jackson Brasher, GKCV Race Day

Jackson Brasher started his 2022 karting season over the weekend at the Go Kart Club of Victoria. Brasher finished his 2021 season with a strong fourth place at the final meeting of the season at the Eastern Lions Kart Club.

Jackson has been doing a lot of work along side eighteen-time national champion David Sera, through his kart class program and was looking to start 2022 with a bang. Sunday morning qualifying was the start of the young guns season and he was excited to hit the track.

In a large field of fifteen drivers, Brasher knew he had to put his head down to get a strong spot. Under his A1 Engines Motorsport power, Jackson was immediately in the battle for the top ten and was pushing on the edge of the top five. With multiple state champions and high caliber drivers in the field, the battle for pole position was fast and tough. Brasher did a fantastic job setting a time fast enough for position five having him off the inside of the front row.

Jackson and his team looked towards heat one and progress through the field the main aim. The Kart Class backed entry got a brilliant get away, jumping up to position three by the end of the opening lap. Brasher made a move into position two on lap three, looking like he had the pace to challenge for victory. Brasher took the lead on lap four but had state champion Cruz Kelly stalking his every move. Kelly took the lead on lap six but Jackson was relentless on the back of the race leader. Brasher had a heat to remember taking out the fastest lap, moving up three positions and taking second spot overall in an excellent opening heat!

Jackson worked on tuning the kart up with his team and looked to go one better in heat number two. The Bendigo Karts and Parts sponsored entry moved up to position four at the end of the opening lap. Brasher made a move for position three on lap two and was into second spot by lap four, once again chasing after race leader Cruz Kelly. Jackson threw everything he had at the race leader, trying to close down the margin with his kart looking in great shape! Brasher crossed the line for another excellent second spot, putting himself off the front row for heat number three.

Brasher slotted straight into second spot off the start to resume his battle with state champion Kelly. The Bendigo Bathrooms and Smartphone Specialists sponsored entry stalked the race leader and looked a massive chance to take victory. In an intense and exciting race Jackson took the race lead on the penultimate lap of the race. In a breath-taking finish Jackson was able to hold on and take his first victory of the weekend in fine style.

Confidence was now high that Jackson was right in the battle for the round victory. Brasher unfortunately didn’t get the start he was after, dropping back to position four off the start. Under his A1 Engines Motorsport power moved his way up into third spot with ground to make up with leaders. Due to the opening lap Jackson couldn’t quite chase in the leaders, coming away with a strong podium finish.

Jackson’s Dad Damian was excited with weekends result. “It was an awesome weekend, with a lot of lessons learnt. As always Brett from A1 delivered with a cracker engine and with help from Dave Sera we had a blast”.

Jackson was happy to be on the podium for his first meeting of the year. “I was super happy to get the fastest lap for the weekend in a very talented field”.
