Brazil Cancelled

FIA Karting has finally conceded there will be no World Championship event in Brazil this year, the location cancelled for the second year in a row. However, the OK and OKJ World Championship will be contested in Spain in October.

The professional European factory teams had expressed some time ago they would not enter an event in Brazil, citing excessive cost, logistical and planning issues largely caused by the pandemic. It seems they stuck to their word and didn’t lodge entries…

The 2021 FIA Karting World Championship, featuring OK and OK Junior categories, scheduled for Birigui, Brazil, on December 2-5, has been cancelled as the global COVID-19 pandemic continues to generate challenges for teams, drivers and organisers in many regions.

The 2021 FIA Karting OK-OKJ World Championship will take place in Spain from 29th to 31st October. The venue will be announced in the coming days.

Felipe Massa, President of the FIA International Karting Commission said: “It is with great sadness that we find ourselves having to cancel the World Championship Event in Birigui. The global situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic makes the event impossible to happen where we wanted to go. I would like to personally thank the local organizer Speed Park and the CBA staff for their commitment and hard work to date and we look forward to working together with them to develop FIA Karting in Brazil.

A new event will take place in Europe to allow the best Karting drivers in the world to finish their season with a World Championship.”
