Karting Victoria has confirmed the postponement of several more events in the state, leading to what will likely be a tight and busy schedule for the back end of the year.
Karting Victoria Covid update: 23rd July 2021
As a result of the current lockdown imposed by the State Government it has been deemed necessary and prudent to postpone both the Golden Power Series Round 4 at Albury on the weekend of 31st July and 1st of August, and the City of Melbourne Titles at Go Kart Club of Victoria scheduled for 14th and 15th of August. Both Albury Wodonga Kart Club and Go Kart Club of Victoria were involved in the discussions around this decision.
After the State Government’s announcement about lockdown and restrictions has been made next Tuesday, a decision will be made and circulated about the Club Day weekend scheduled for 7th and 8th of August, and about the Golden Power Series Round scheduled for 21st and 22nd of August, and also about the Northwest Titles in Mildura scheduled for 28th and 29th of August. These decisions will be dictated by any restrictions placed on travel and gathering numbers.
If these two open meetings also must be postponed, we would hope that gathering and travel restrictions would allow club day racing to continue and additional Social Karting to take place. Any such activities will have to comply with COVID legislation. Once we have the details next Wednesday further information on what is and is not allowed regarding on-track activities will be forthcoming.
As you are aware the Victorian Country Series Round 4 to be held at Wimmera earlier this month was also postponed. The rescheduling of these meetings, at least three but potentially five, in an already busy calendar will be quite challenging. Add to this there are two rounds of the Australian Karting Championship also looking to be rescheduled within the remaining weeks left in the calendar.
We are currently working on a broad solution to the calendar but, until the details of the easing of restrictions in Victoria are known next Wednesday, we cannot provide anything specific.
Please be patient. We are all weathering this storm together, and by working together in the coming weeks we will achieve the best outcome for the sport and all its stakeholders.
Yours in karting,
VICTORIAN KARTING ASSOCIATION INC.
