Victorian Lockdown Shuts Down Karting

All of this months Club Day race meetings in Victoria have been cancelled due to the statewide COVID-19 seven-day lockdown announced by the State Government today.

This is a particular blow for those heading to the Eastern Lions race meeting for a ‘shakedown’ on the Puckapunyal circuit in preparation for the AKC round scheduled at the venue on June 25-27.

The state – and to a lesser degree, the entire country – now takes a ‘wait and see’ approach to when race meetings may recommence. The Golden Power Series round at Bendigo (June 5/6) is after the lockdown, but there are no guarantees it will be allowed to go ahead – so, fingers crossed!

Karting Australia’s Kelvin O’Reilly statement below.

Good Morning Everyone,

Unfortunately, today’s announcement of a seven-day ‘lockdown’ for Victoria has forced the cancellation of all karting activities at Karting Australia circuits until next Friday at 12:00am. This means that all Social Karting Activities must cease until this time, and the Club Days scheduled for this weekend are cancelled.

Karting Australia will work closely with Karting Victoria regarding the government-enforced requirements surrounding the upcoming events such as the Golden Power Series Round in Bendigo, North West Victorian Titles in Mildura and Gippsland Challenge.

At this stage, the Australian Kart Championship round to be hosted by the Eastern Lions Kart Club at the end of June will proceed as planned, however, we will be monitoring the situation closely over the coming weeks. While the Public Health Direction is yet to be updated following this morning’s announcement. Should it alter anything for our sport, we will advise as soon as possible.

Should you have any questions, please contact state office

Best Regards and Stay Safe
