Lismore’s Hot Shots

by Di Smith, Lismore Kart Club.

Lismore put on its best race weather for LKC’s Round 2 / Hot Shots meeting on Sunday 2 May. Overnight showers saw a wet track in the morning with racing starting a 9am for a short 5 minute practice session, which on slick tyres, tested the driving skills of everyone straight up.

The first group out for Qualifying was TaG Restricted Light with Beau Cubis taking Pole Position. Beau dominated the Heats winning every race and taking 1st place in the Final with a 8 second lead. Behind Beau it was a real arm wrestle with Simone Bisgrove having to work hard in the heats to come home 2nd in the Final and Jannion Elliott finishing in 3rd place. Mark Frost was impressive all day however a mistake in the Final sidelined the #51 kart on Lap 2.

Hot Shots at Lismore (L to R) Kobi Preston, Louis Brown, Joel Lammers, Kayden Thompson & Jake Santin.

Staying with the seniors, Elliott Thompson completed a clean sweep in TaG Light with Marc McMullen-Armfield 2nd in the Final. Martin Hollings had a scary moment at the pimple in Heat 2 running wide and out of sight to park his kart in the vegetation at the top of the hill. Unfortunately James Evans had to retire halfway through Heat 1 after showing good pace in Qualifying.

In TaG Heavy it was a mixed bag in the Heats with the Top 4 within ½ second of each other. Jamie Gluyas bought it home in 1st Place in a nail biter with Brad Schneider hot on his bumper in 2nd place and Richard Bostock finished a solid 3rd place.

Elliott Thompson backed up to win the 4SS Senior Light Final and Jack McNamara from Qld too strong to win the 4SS Heavy Class with Jamie Gluyas in 2nd and Marc McMullen- Armfield in 3rd.

In the Novice Class, Charlie Hogan breezed through the Heats and Final with dominant wins and a best time of 35 seconds flat in the Pre-Final. Curt McPherson held onto 2nd place in the Final with a charging and impressive drive from P-Plater Lyluna Elliott. Lyluna improved her lap times by over 2 seconds per lap from qually to get into the 38 seconds so look our for her next race.

The Rookie Class had Louis Brown, Brock Helm and Luke Wilson come down from Queensland to take on Jake Satin, Joel Lammers and Declan Hicks at their home track. Joel completed a cracking lap in the final seconds of the qualifying session to take Pole Position by ½ second with Brock edging out Jake for P2 and P3 respectively. Louis pushed a little too much in the low grip conditions to find the mulch bund at the last corner to miss recording a qualifying time. The heats saw a few dramas, battles and spins with Louis taking wins in H1 & H3 with Joel taking a win in H2. In the final, Loui was unstoppable to lead from start to finish to take the win, Joel finishing 2nd and Jake 3rd after surviving pressure from Brock for most of the race.

Jake, Loui and Joel then jumped into their MiniMax karts to push each other with impressive and smooth drives by each of them all day, however Jake provide to be too strong taking wins in each Heat and the Final with Joel 2nd in his first race in a Rotax and Loui close behind in 3rd.

Junior Performance had Max Gommers drive consistently all day to record a best time of 32.7 seconds and Jackson Morrissey looking fast and smooth in Junior Light with a best time in the Final of 33.5 seconds.

Well done to all the competitors and we look forward to seeing you all at Round 3 of the Club Championship on 23 May.
