Driver PR: Aiden Schweikert, Vic Championship

Aiden Schweikert tackled his maiden state championship over the weekend in the highly competitive Cadet 12 field. Schweikert has been a driver on the improve to start the 2021 season with a front row qualifying effort at the last round of the Golden Power Series. The Formula K driver was looking for a great weekend of racing and strong results.

Schweikert started qualifying nineteenth position out the circuit due to his time set in timed practice and was looking to improve. Young Aiden was able to get some clear air for his opening few flying laps. Young Schweikert set his fastest laps of the weekends and was on the edge of the top fifteen, improving position. The Formula K karter finished the ultra-competitive session coming home in position sixteen overall and looking to continue improvement in the heats.

Schweikert after improving in qualifying was looking to move up again in the opening heat. In the dry conditions, the G & L motor Repairs and Performance sponsored entry got a lighting start jumping up inside the top ten off the start in a fantastic start. Young Aiden made his way up into ninth position due to another driver’s mistake, improving position again. Just when an excellent result looked on the cards, the formula K driver got shunted wide in an incident and got shuffled back outside the top ten. Schweikert crossed the line in position fourteen overall in another improved effort but disappointment of missing the top ten had the young charger determined.

Heat two was completed in different conditions in the rain and tricker track surface. Schweikert got a clean get away, getting up to position fifteen overall. The Jeremy Cross sponsored entry stayed in this position but due to the tough conditions and tricky overtaking it was hard to make up any ground at all. Young Justin crossed the line in position fifteen overall getting more good points after a tough race in tough conditions.

Schweikert was back in dry conditions for heat three and was looking to improve spots to get the best starting position for Sunday’s racing. The Hayley Hire sponsored entry got an electric start much like heat one, jumping inside the top ten. Aiden was in a race long battle with two other karts, dropping and gaining positions all race. The Formula K karter unfortunately was involved in an incident when going into turn one and had a kart go half over him. Schweikert was able to regroup but finished in fourteenth overall.

Sunday presented itself with a much different weather condition. Heavy rain over night, a half-flooded track and not sight of sunshine. Due to these conditions, heat four was cancelled and it was straight into the twenty-one-lap final. Starting the final out of eighteenth overall young Aiden had made his way into position sixteen at the end of the first lap. The G & L Motors and Performance sponsored entry had a few mistakes throughout the race but continued to press on and try and make up spots. After a few overtakes and other drivers mistakes the Formula K karter finished in position twelve overall in his best result for the weekend.

Young Aiden said he had many ups and downs but was happy with the weekend. “It was a great fun weekend of racing. With all the ups and downs it ended pretty well. I’d like to thank my sponsors, G & L Motor Repairs and Performance, Jeremy Corss and Hayley Hire”.

Young Schweikert will next hit the track at the Golden Power Series at the Eastern Lions Kart Club
