What an amazing weekend (March 27) and numbers topped last years at the same event which is fabulous with 145 entries received. The club officials, canteen staff, ambulance staff and helpers alike all did amazingly to run the event so smoothly.
Let’s start with a sad note, but in a way of celebration. It was Kevin Cossor’s last race meeting ever. The 70 year old racer has had many years of Karting and truly liked by all in the sport. It’s a sad day when such a gentleman hangs up the race suit and helmet, but one that many people have already shared fond memories of. Good luck with all the gardening and relaxing you’ll have to do now Kev and see you at the track again soon (for a visit)!

Ok, onto the weekend racing! The noisy tour classes first:
The famous Pie Eaters (TaG Restricted Medium)
This saw some intense close racing with local legend Peter Patzwald just missing out on the podium. The international driver (Gaven Whitmore) was third after being just off the pace of the front two this weekend. In second was Two-Tap (Blayke Wagner), and neither of them were a match for eventual winner, the birthday boy him self who was actually 21 on finals day (the Rockhampton Rocket) Jacob Calwell.

The Loose Units (Open Performance)
Peter Virgulti (fattygulti) just missed out on the podium behind the Ipswich Kart Club president Scott Cleveland (steamer). In second and only 2 behind eventual winner was young Zane Morrison aboard his KZ2 all the way from Coffs Harbour Kart Racing Club. Beating them all in his twin engined 200 kg Rotax was Peter Bossons (Bosso).

The Sumos (TaG Heavy)
This one saw a few surprises, Blayke Wagner (two-tap), Gaven Whitmore (the international driver) and Rodney Rudy Farkas were all off the pace for some reason. Colin Palmer and Jarad Neinert were both really competitive, so it was fabulous to see the Bundaberg Marineland driver Paul Vuichoud right up there and if he hadn’t been turned around in one of his heats he would for sure have been on the podium!
That first podium position actually went to the super consistent cool hand Luke Thomas who himself got caught up in a couple of incidents. So in second place one of our favourite racers from Ipswich Kart Club, Peter Sattler (satts) bagged himself second place with an awesome second day after now being happy with say one. The win went to a newcomer to the class, young fast Finlay Derry who was absolutely unstoppable in his TGR kart.

The Midgets (TaG Restricted Light)
Doubling up in two classes is never easy but Zane Morrison from Harbour made it look that way. Having been on the podium in the Loose Units, he backed it up with a strong 5th in this 17-kart field having never seen this circuit before!
Just ahead of him the girl racer, another Rockhampton Rocket young Emily Calwell. Onto the podium positions, in 3rd was the #26 kart of Christopher John with an excellent performance. In second yet another driver doubling up but this time one who has been on The Tour for three years Peter Bossons (bosso). Beating them all with a fabulous display of skilled driving the Power Republic factory driver Lucas O’Connor (the Loc).

The Old Buggers (TaG Restricted Masters)
Perhaps the most eagerly anticipated classes of the day – Evan Broughton, Jamie Gluyas, Tye Ruddy and Tim Bleisner had some fabulous battles. It was a case of close but no cigar in this one for Peter Virgulti (fatigulti) who was beaten into 4th place by local favourite Gary Auhl.
Onto the podium positions and just not quite on the pace as the front two this weekend was Michael McLean (Magic Mike). Michael Darr was absolutely on top form to grab second place this weekend with some powerful driving but the untouchable one out front was none other than Nick Newman (eddee wot).
