Friday practice was the starting point for the Janev Building sponsored entry and it was a strong starting point. Janev ran inside the top ten in the first three practice sessions and was showing strong pace. Practice four and five were crucial sessions as these outcomes determined your qualifying starting position. The Janev Building sponsored entry was able to come out and topped the times in practice four! Practice five was another strong showing making the top three in third spot.

Saturday came around and after a positive Friday the excitement and nerves were building. The Regency Windows sponsored Janev was second out the gate for the all-important qualifying session. In a hot paced and highly skilled timed qualifying Janev ran inside the top five all session looking menacing for pole position. In a tight result the Regency Windows backed entry landed fourth overall putting himself right in contention in the heat races!

Heat 1, lights out and the hard and fast racing began! Janev in his Pro Karting powered entry had a mishap at turn one with some kart contact. Janev back nearly outside the top ten went to work and through determination and fight worked his way back into the top five! Janev battled in the top group with Jordan Shalala, Costa Toparis, Jesse Lacey and Aiva Anagnostiadis showing the high level of standard! Janev fought back and crossed the line in fourth but was classified in second spot due to post race infringements.

Janev out for heat 2 and was looking to continue his strong start to the weekend in his Materpiece Cabinetry sponsored entry. The young speedster again didn’t get the start he was after, dropping back to position eight after the first few laps. With a head down butt up approach the Pro Karting powered entry made his way back up the field and into the top five. Closing to within half a second of fourth Janev rallied home to finish in fifth with more good points gathered.

Heat 3 was a turning point in Janevs weekend and unfortunately not for the better. The Pro Karting powered kart got away smoothly and was battling in the top five from the outset and looked prominent for another strong result. Janev had his charged halted when his rear bumper came loose and resulted in a mechanical meatball flag and a DNF. A strong Saturday overall in the books with an unfortunate finish to the day through no fault of the Pro Karting powered driver.

Sunday and pay day come around with Heat 4 and final to compete. Janev after a couple of poor heat starts had his best get away of the weekend. The Pro Karting powered driver moved from fourth to third in the opening lap and looked to continue to improve. Janev made quick work of Leon Cordato on lap three and went after race leader Jordan Shalala! Janev stormed home in second spot but unfortunately had a two place penalty for a drop down bumper effectively finishing in position four.

Janev due to his combined heat results was starting out of position four in the final and was determined to finish the weekend on a high note. He dropped back to fifth of the start but by lap seven was in the top three charging after the front runners. Janev made a move for second position on Aiva Anagnostiadis with Costa Toparis hot on his heels. In a great battle to finish the final Toparis was able to pip Janev with a strong podium finish, with third position his final result!

Kristian’s father David was wrapped with the result after missing the opening round due to Covid restrictions.

“Happy with results coming out from Covid. We couldn’t do the first round so really this was our first round” David noted.

“Massive thank you to Pro Karting for their continuous support and our mechanic Luke Germanchis”.

Young Janev will next be on track this weekend at the Goulburn Valley Kart Club looking for back to back round wins in the Golden Power Series!
