POLL RESULT – Mid-January we ran a reader poll asking “For those who drive karts, what type of karting will you do in 2020?” Below are the results of the 633 voters.

EVENT – Race meet at Lismore, Club Championship round 1.

BARCLAY’s BACK – Barclay Holden, who had a successful karting career spanning 15 years with victories at the highest level in Australia, has been appointing the Queensland agent for Kart Republic agent. Additionally, Holden Kart Racing will be passing on technical knowledge on kart set up and analysis to drivers and their pit crew. Holden experienced the KR chassis when undertaking an extensive testing regime with newly signed and factory supported protege, Zane Rinaldi.

MINI MOVES – With the ‘international’ Mini category now requiring the use of homologated equipment (chassis, bodywork, brakes, engines, ignition systems, carburettors and intake silencers) the CIK-FIA has come out to declare there is no intention of giving the Mini category an international sporting framework. There are no international licences for drivers under 12 and “the Mini categories are intended to remain on a national level. The new Mini homologation is purely for technical reason and not lead to international licences for this age group.” However, CIK-FIA President Felipe Massa says he looks forward “to seeing as many ASNs as possible following these new rules. It is important to train the youngest Drivers in a similar way all over the world.”

SPROCKETS PLUS in WA – The Junior Sprockets PLUS Program is tailor made for Cadet and Juniors who have been involved in the sport for less than three years. It’s a perfect way to kick off the year and learn from some of the best in the business. Next month’s Western Australian SP Tools Junior Sprockets events will also incorporate the Junior Sprockets PLUS Program. Places are limited.

CITY TRACK – A huge project involving NF Sports, former F1 driver Rubens Barrichello and a group of investors that was announced at the end of last year is beginning to take shape. Aiming to encompass the legacy of the World Cup of Soccer in 2014 and the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil, NF Sports, Barrichello and the group of entrepreneurs are building a new kart track surrounding the Fonte Nova Arena in Salvador, Brazil. The circuit will meet the latest CIK/FIA regulations. The project includes a shopping mall and the first motor racing museum in the country.

Registrations are being accepted via email at: jnrdevelopment@ipswichkartclub.org.au More days will be scheduled as required. The Ipswich club had almost 150 participants through the program in 2019 and reports a good number of them have taken up the sport, many spending the latter part of 2019 practicing and getting ready for racing in 2020.
