Local Kids Excel at AKC Round

from Russell Innes – Development Officer, Ipswich Kart Club

As host club of the 1st Round of the SP Tools 2019 Australian Kart Championship, Ipswich Kart Club had a very large contingent of Juniors and Cadets entered, many of whom were racing their very first AKC Round.

Notable performances of course were Luke Pink, having a very convincing victory in the KA2 Final, and Patrick Buckley’s superb victory in the Cadet 9 Final.

Pink was supreme all weekend in KA2 winning every heat and the Final quite convincingly, Conner Roberts, Jacinta Hoey and Jarrod Hughes were all able to finish the Final in the top 10.

Oscar Targett was the best placed IKC member in the KA4 Junior Final with 5th place, just ahead of Kurtis Tennant who looked very good in the Heats with top 3 placings, but fell back in the Final to finish 6th. Zane Rinaldi had a pretty good day to finish with an impressive 7th in the Final.

Cadet 12 had a huge contingent of IKC members. Max Walton, Hayden Sell and Lachlan Platten all started well with top 10 in qualifying. It was Lincoln Taylor though who progressed the best through the Heats and an eventual 5th place in the Final, ahead of Walton in 7th and Platten in 8th.

Basilo Micale, Buckley and Toby Musico led the IKC charge early in Cadet 9 with top 5 qualifying placings. Micale and Buckley continued on with good Heat results, but it was Buckley who ended up taking a superb win in the Final. Micale was 3rd across the line in the Final but a drop down fairing penalty dropped him to 5th place finisher. Isaac McNeill got a great result with 6th in the Final, as was Sebastian Bennett’s 7th place.

The IKC Juniors and Cadets will now prepare themselves for Round 2 of the club championship on March 2nd and then the 2nd Round of the AKC in Newcastle later in March.
