Cadet 9
Fantastic racing once again from the Cadet 9s. The pre-race favourite Jackson Cooper had mechanical & racing dramas all weekend and just didn’t have Lady Luck on his side. Jordan Sell & James Cittolin are worthy of a mention also having been in the mix at the front all weekend but it was Jake Santin who collected enough points to take the round win ahead of (Dima) Basilio Micale. Toby Musico managed 3rd over all after his first Cadet race win in the final and what a final it was too!
1st: Jake Santin
2nd: Basilio Micale
3rd: Toby Musico
TaG Heavy
Just one TaG Heavy driver made the trip over the hill and Andrew Morgan spent the weekend battling against Ronald Harders in the Light class and gave us plenty of entertainment.
1st: Andrew Morgan
TaG Light
In the TaG Lights, for the round results Ronald Harders couldn’t quite stay with the pace of the front three. Of those, Matt Stenner was just that tenth off the pace of the front two during the weekend never quite getting the set up right to stay with the two in front of him. Out of those two, Nic Lane gave Dylan Rudd a run for his money in each heat and the final but it was the skill of the #99 Praga driver Rudd that helped him pull away and look in unstoppable form. Convincing is definitely a word that should be used his weekends performance!
1st: Dylan Rudd
2nd: Nic Lane
3rd: Mathew Stenner
KA3 Junior
In the KA3 1st & second looked to be sorted out from the get go all weekend long with Tommy the hitman Cooper in dominant form again. Taking the fight to him once again was my favourite pikey Oscar Comley, but that’s where the certainty stopped with anyone capable of the next few Positions! Ryan “the rocket” Laycock was in the mix just off the front 4 for most of the weekend. Alford & Cowie were right in the thick of the action too but what a drive from All American drive line & auto parts backed Chad “holeshot” Sampson to 4th in the final which bagged him enough
points to get him on the podium for the round result! And special mention must go to the #35 Zupp’s sponsored Aaron Williams who came third in the final but just missed out on an overall podium.
1st: Thomas Cooper
2nd: Oscar Comley
3rd: Chad Sampson
KA3 Senior
Another dominant performance from the “blingy man” #88 Dale Zimmerman. He never looked like he would be beaten all weekend but the fight for second, third and 4th at times was one to watch the Cooloola Kid Callum Ryan just missing out but Ipswich member Daley Martin did just enough to secure 3rd for the weekend just being beaten on points by Robby Reid.
1st: Dale Zimmerman
2nd: Robert Reid
3rd: Daley Martin
TaG Restricted Light
One of the most drama filled classes all weekend. Special mention first must go to Brianna McKenzie racing on her birthday weekend and qualifying on the front row, then getting a second and third in the heats and looking a certainty for a podium in the round results, but an accident in the final and subsequent DNF meant she didn’t quite get the points she needed! Another special mention to Melanya Rudd who got the fastest lap of the final and really is improving fast. But the podium was sorted out with a consistent drive from Rudy Farkas bagging him 3rd place. Fighting for second or third all weekend long was enough to get Allan Mayes enough points for second, but even Allan couldn’t match the pace shown by Paul McNeil who took a comfortable win.
1st: Paul McNeil
2nd: Allan Mayes
3rd: Rudy Farkas
TaG Restricted Masters
In the Masters – or “the old bugger” as I lovingly refer to them as, Tony Hardacre had dramas in the final but had gained enough points to secure third. Shane Castles excellent win in the final after a 10 lap battle with Paul Willmott saw him take second, but the master “bazza” Barry Mendleson secured the round win after his heat wins, and despite a 5th place finish in the final after being turned around at turn 1!
1st: Barrie Mendelson
2nd: Shane Castles
3rd: Tony Hardacre
Cadet 12
Perhaps the most exciting racing of the day, the Cadet 12s never disappoint! The three drivers on the podium for the round were always in the mix but right behind them and giving us some awesome racing were Santin, Thompson, Sell, Suffolk, Peacock, Vidler and Lemasurier. Eventually it was sorted out with Lachlan Platten finding the perfect set up for Sandy Creek Raceway and pulling away in the last few laps to take a convincing win from the Ormeau Flyer “Welzie” Jack Wells. A very impressive drive to third from Beau Bromhead was also a highlight!
1st: Lachlan Platten
2nd: Jack Wells
3rd: Beau Bromhead
TaG Restricted Medium
My favourite pie eaters, the TaG Restricted Medium class, once again gave us super close racing all weekend, Brett Wells had a mechanical failure on Saturday so didn’t race until Sunday but showed great pace. Bunga Mueller was always in with a shout too, but the first podium place went to the Cooloola Cowboy Peter Patzwald! Jackson Bermingham was on the pace all weekend long managing second over all for the round and Ricky Jones had a fantastic weekend to take the win.
1st: Rick Jones
2nd: Jackson Bermingham
3rd: Peter Patzwald
KA4 Junior Light
KA4 Junior is always ultra competitive and once again it proved to be the case! Codey Collins would call himself a budget racer but he looked anything but in the final taking 5th and really amongst the front runners! Zucetech sponsored pairing of Alex & Ryan Hadden once again in the thick of the action and for Alex in the thick of the drama with a big accident parking the kart heavily into the tyres. The round podium was finally sorted with Annabelle Rolfo getting the points required for 3rd. Just beating her, and what a drive from the #55 kart, of Zane Rinaldi. But another excellent drive from the ever present flyer Curtis Tennant!
1st: Kurtis Tennant
2nd: Zane Rinaldi
3rd: Annabelle Rolfo
