CEO of the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport, Eugene Arocca, issued a statement on Friday regarding CAMS’ position on karting and the current situation with Karting NSW.
It should be noted that while Karting Australia licenced drivers are the ones that will fall under the umbrella of the FIA, KA is not the sole authority that organises and controls kart racing in this country.
Statement from Eugene Arocca:
Recently, there has been some discussion in the karting community around Karting NSW’s intention to run the sport independently in NSW. Karting NSW has also informed its members of its intention to seek separate affiliation with CAMS on behalf of its Clubs.
As has been the case for many years, Karting Australia has been delegated the sole power and authority to organise and control karting in Australia by CAMS and the Federation Internationale de ‘l Automobile (FIA). We can confirm CAMS will not entertain any affiliation or delegation request from Karting NSW. CAMS has a long standing and existing delegation with Karting Australia and we have every intention of honouring this.
In our view that the benefits of staying aligned with Karting Australia are clear and far reaching, including robust insurance coverage, best practice safety standards and an affiliation, through CAMS, with the FIA.
We would urge all NSW karting club members and licence holders to carefully consider the consequences of not remaining aligned with Karting Australia, CAMS and the FIA.
