Jason Richards GP Memorial Now In 4th Year

The Mike Greer Homes-sponsored Jason Richards GP kart race meeting this weekend will be the fourth such event the KartSport Nelson club has run in memory of former club member Jason Richards, the V8 Supercar driver who died of a rare form of cancer in 2011.

Richards remains a well-remembered karter and racing driver and Club President Kevin Barker says that the Nelson club is honoured to organise an event each year in his name.

“Jason was part of this club and we wanted to pay our respects in the best way possible. He showed sportsmanship throughout his career and that – and having some fun while we are doing it – is what we have based this event around.”

This year’s two-day meeting format will see each of the seven Jason Richards GP classes get a qualifying session and three 12-lap heats on Saturday. There will then be a fourth – this time 15-lap reverse grid – heat on Sunday morning, followed by a Top 6 Shootout then a 40-lap Grand Prix Final.

As well as trophies for first, second and third in each of the seven Jason Richards Trophy classes there will also be cash prizes courtesy event naming rights sponsor Mike Greer Homes.
