D’Ambrosio Dominates for DJM

DJM Race Engineering took on the second round of the Victorian Country Series at the Portland Kart Club over the weekend. DJM Race Engineering had a dominate opening round winning both of the classes the team competed in and they were looking to continue the trend with their three driver team at Portland.

Qualifying was on Saturday afternoon and the three drivers for the team state champion Josh D’Ambrosio, Charlee Richardson and Maximus Chudasko all were out on track together in the KA4 Junior Heavy class. Qualifying got underway and all four drivers were in the battle with D’Ambrosio and Richardson in the top three and Chudasko battling inside the top ten. D’Ambrosio for the second consecutive round put his entry on pole position in the nineteen kart field. Charlee Richardson set the third quickest time to land herself on the second row with Maximus Chudasko just missing the top ten in position twelve.

Heat 1 come around and both D’Ambrosio and Richardson didn’t get the start they were after with D’Ambrosio dropping down to second and Richardson down to sixth. Chudasko got the start he was after jumping from position twelve up to seventh by the opening few laps. D’Ambrosio fought back well to take the lead and the opening heat win of the round. Richardson was able to make a couple of spots back into position four and Chudasko was able to hold position in seventh.

In heat 2 D’Ambrosio dropped back to second again on lap two but then retook the lead the following lap looking to build a margin. Richardson and Chudasko both lost spots off the start with Richardson going back to fourth from third and Chudasko outside the top ten after starting in seventh. D’Ambrosio was able to take a dominate victory in heat 2 by over four seconds putting himself in the best possible spot for the final. Richardson was able to get back into third spot towards the back end of the race with Chudasko making his way back into the top ten in position ten.

The sixteen lap final came around and D’Ambrosio jumped away cleanly and was able to hold the lead off the start. Richardson settling in the early stages in fourth with Chudasko dropping down to ninth in the opening few laps. D’Ambrosio was able to clear away and take another race win making it a clean sweep for the second round in a row. Richardson was able to mount a fight back moving up to third and then making a move for second spot and finishing there making it a DJM Race Engineering one two. Chudasko manage to stay inside the top ten and come home in a strong ninth place for some more good points.

Team owner and manager Dylan McLellan was wrapped with the way things went over the weekend.

“Another great round at the country series, Josh hasn’t dropped a race all series and for Charlee to come home in second in the final was a great one two result” noted McLellan. Maximus improved all weekend and after qualifying he was in the top ten in all races and we will build on that for the next round”.

DJM Race Engineering will again be at the track this weekend for the second round of the Australian Kart Championship in Newcastle.
