Levi’s Courageous Comeback

Karting is a sport full of adrenaline, high speeds and danger – just ask Levi Lord. Lord was involved in a huge kart roll over at the Eastern Lions Kart Club at their 2021 Golden Power Series round. Levi, at 60km per hour, snapped his humerus bone and after an ambulance trip, three hospital trips and two surgeries later the young driver was on the road to recovery.

Lord completed a heart felt come back story over the weekend returning to the kart club and event he had his incident at twelve months earlier! Lord hit the track early on Saturday afternoon to complete the first racing session of his return to open racing.

The Elixar Compounding Pharmacy sponsored entry was setting his early lap times and pushing hard to try and make his way into the top ten. Levi put in an excellent effort improving as the session went on, setting a time fast enough for eighth position. Lord had put himself in the hunt and was keen to try and move forward.

The opening heat of the weekend was later on Saturday afternoon and Levi was looking to continue his progress. The Pulse Tuning supported entry got a clean get away and slotted into ninth spot in the opening lap. Lord and his team had made some set up changes that didn’t quite work and had the young driver battling on the edge of the top ten. Lord was able to come home inside the top ten in position ten!

Levi woke up Sunday morning and was excited to race in his final two heat races and final that day. The Apex Trusses backed entry got another clean get away slotting into ninth spot and keen to move forward up the field. Lord made his way up to position eight on the second lap and was keen to make up more spots in the race. Levi concluded his second heat of the weekend with an excellent seventh spot!

Lord was out of position nine for the third heat and was keen to move forward like he did in the second heat. The Elixar Compounding Pharmacy supported entry slotted into ninth position but quickly moved into eighth spot. Levi closed in on seventh position in front of him and was looking to make up another spot in the back end of race. Lord crossed the line in another consistent eighth position, only four hundredths of a second behind seventh spot!

The twelve-lap final came around and Levi was looking to finish his triumph of a weekend on a high. The Pulse Tuning sponsored entry slotted into eighth spot at the end of the opening lap and was looking to race hard! Lord was in a battle at the edge of the top ten with positions change and the young driver racing for spots. Levi finished his weekend on a high completing all races, never leaving the top ten and finish in an excellent tenth spot.

Levi’s parents spoke post weekend on how proud they were of their son to get back on the race track. “The courage, dedication and perseverance Levi has shown us in times of adversity to return to karting makes us incredibly proud. Sometimes recovery is not just about physical recovery, it’s also about overcoming other traumas the body experiences as a consequence of an incident or injury. It takes time & a lot of support and we are thrilled to see Levi out on the track this weekend in his first open meeting since the accident.

“We are incredibly grateful for the friendships and the support we received during Levi’s recovery from both the Eastern Lions Kart Club and the karting community in general’.

Lord will continue on racing for the 2022 season and be one to watch as he returns to the circuit!
