Driver PR: Lucas Constanzo, ELKC Race Day

Lucas Costanzo had his final hit out at the July Club Day, before his tilt at the fourth round of the Australian Kart Championship later this month. Lucas had a strong weekend and round win at the last round of the club championship and was looking for a similar result here.

The Pro Karting powered driver hit the track early Sunday morning to get qualifying under way. Under foggy and greasy conditions, Lucas hit the track and was straight away in the battle for pole position with fellow Cadet 9 ace Cruz Kelly. Track conditions was an issue for the Reload Power Group backed entry, not having the grip of his rival Kelly. Costanzo was able to put himself up on the front row of the grid and looked to the opening heat to try and match Kelly for pace.

Heat one and Lucas got a great start stalking the back of the race leader in the early stages. On Lap five the Luvia Lighting Concepts sponsored entry made his move for the lead. In a close and tight finish Costanzo was able to fight back in heat one and take victory, also getting the fastest lap of the race.

Costanzo had another strong start slotting in behind Kelly off the start and once again mirroring the race leader. The Pro Karting powered entry was able to take the lead on lap four but Kelly took it straight back on lap five in an exciting battle. Lucas in another close finish was able to come home in second position, setting up an exciting final two races of the day.

The Reload Electrical P/L sponsored entry achieved another clean get away and once again battled it out in front with Kelly for the race victory. Setting the fastest lap of the race, Costanzo looked menacing on the back of the race leader in heat three. In another close finish Lucas came home in second spot setting up another exciting race in the final.

Lucas worked hard for another clean get away in the final, sitting right behind the race leader in the opening half of the race. The Reload Power Group backed entry made a move for the lead on lap five, staking his claim for the race and round win. In a grandstand finish Kelly was able to take the lead back on lap seven. Costanzo under his Pro Karting power set another fastest lap but just missed the race and round win, coming home in position two overall in an exciting final.

Lucas’s father Ralph spoke of set up difficulties and his young son’s never give up attitude. “Another great result for Lucas, with great pace and some great driving Lucas is showing why passion and dedication is absolutely part of it all and we’re so proud of our little boy. We Didn’t get on pole but a win in heat 1 was a pleasing result, we couldn’t seem to get the set up right for the remaining heats but extremely close racing made it some good practice leading into AKC round 4”.

Costanzo will now look to his biggest challenge of his young career at the Australian Kart Championship later this month.
