Junior Top Guns

Over 100 entries greeted the starter at the 2020 edition of Junior Top Guns at Oakleigh.

Run as separate rounds over two consecutive nights, results were compiled to determine overall series placings.

Pro Karting’s Will Harper won the headline KA3 class which was the biggest field with 24 starters.

NSW’s Jordan Shalala qualified fastest for Friday’s round and ended up winning the final over Matthew Domaschenz. However, it was Harper who headed all the results during Saturday’s competition to take the series ahead of Domaschenz and Jake Santalucia.

One lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you look at it) competitor was Cadet 12 C&D driver Lachlan Sharpe. High and gusty winds on Friday dislodged some trackside signage bunting in the second heat that blew onto the track and into the path of karts racing. Several drivers got caught up in the banner and the material wrapped around young Lachlan’s head and the wheels, dragging him to a stop. He was able to extract himself from the machine and was taken to hospital for observation and checks.
