The 2014 AIDKA WA Dirt Kart State Titles, proudly sponsored by “Make Smoking History”, was held last weekend at the Busselton Dirt Kart Club with thirteen classes chasing state glory.

Four interstate drivers were on hand with South Australia’s Mark Burford, Wade Ingerson, Jess Bull and Gavin Earl making the trip across. The Rookie class was also on the program but only on the Sunday for some demonstration runs.

The meeting was held over a very grueling three days which included day and night racing, red light stoppages, a rain delay, track maintenance and some officialdom.

The stars of the meeting were Joe Chalmers, Jared Bevan, Nathan Walton and James Inglis with each winning two championships.

Chalmers claimed the KT Light and KT Twins crowns but he also backed that up with runner-up spots in J Open and 125 Light and a third place in 100 Open. It was a remarkable achievement from the seventeen year old to race five events and finish with five podium places.

Another seventeen year old, Jared Bevan, also starred by winning in KT Heavy over Gavin Earl and by driving away from a pretty stout field in KT Medium from James Inglis and Mark Burford. Not to be outdone, Nathan Walton (25) continued his great run this season by winning 125 Light and 125 Heavy. He defeated current and two time National Champ Joe Chalmers in 125 Light and hard chargers Max Fowler and Mick Bain in 125 Heavy.

Wade Ingerson was the winner of 100 Open then backed that up with third place in 200 Open behind winner James Inglis and Chris Diblasi. The 250cc winged Outlaws was Inglis’s second championship success with second place going to his great mate Sam Borlini with Stuart Inglis (James' father) in third.

National Champion Nathan Chalmers continued his dominant year by winning Junior Light from local racer Thomas Callaghan who was the real surprise packet over the weekend and Patrick Watson who continues to impress in third.

Matthew Carleton was the standout in Junior Heavy with a dominant victory over James Batley and Adrian Krause.

It was a battle of the number ones in J Open with National Champ Joe Chalmers and reigning state champion Tim Ryan. Despite only limited appearances this year, Ryan managed to win back to back state titles defeating Chalmers and local Vicki Jones who only graduated from Juniors earlier in the season.

Statesman proved a real even class with four different winners of the four heat races but it was pole sitter for the final Trevor Fowler who powered away to a good win and score enough points to become WA Campion from an unlucky Peter Hubeck and Greg Curtis. Special mention must go to Curtis who is in his fourteenth year of competition and was finally rewarded with a podium placing in a state championship.
