Bathurst Champions Set for Race of Stars Appearance

Recently crowned Bathurst 1000 Champions Chaz Mostert and Paul Morris will return to the kart track to take on their fellow V8 Supercar stars in a Celebrity Race at Race of Stars in Pimpama today.
The Race of Stars has attracted 150 of Australia’s best and several more of the world’s best drivers on the Gold Coast for the invitational Race of Stars event. These competitors will range from the youngest in the Cadets class through to the high-speed elite KZ2 class where drivers will reach speeds in excess of 160 km/h.
Joining Mostert and Morris in the celebrity race at 1:15pm will be fellow Gold Coasters Tim Slade, Lee Holdsworth and Steve Owen, along with Jack Perkins, Michael Caruso, Fabian Coulthard and Alex Premat. The V8 stars will be joined by cycling ace Robbie McEwan. Following their celebrity race, the drivers will be available to sign autographs for fans.
Also on display will be the unique Pirtek Enduro Cup that will be presented after next weekend’s Castrol EDGE Gold Coast 600.
During yesterday’s practice sessions it was Patrizicorse driver Simo Puhakka from Finland who set the early pace in the elite KZ2 class ahead of fellow international driver Jonathan Thonon from Belgium. Sydney driver Chris Sandrone was fastest ahead of Zane Morse in the KF3 class.
The other international drivers at this weekend’s event include multiple-time World Champion Davide Forè, Italian Champion Lorenzo Camplese, New Zealand Champion Daniel Bray and rising Dutch star Marijn Kremers.
Qualifying will begin at 8:00am tomorrow (Saturday) morning with the finals scheduled from 2pm. The Xtreme Karting Complex is located on Pimpama Jacobs Well Road, Pimpama (Exit 49 off the M1).
The Race of Stars is powered by the V8 Superfest that surrounds the Castrol EDGE Gold Coast 600. The V8 Superfest is a community events program that is an initiative of the Queensland Government, Gold Coast City Council and V8 Supercars Australia. The free event is open to spectators and last year enjoyed great attendances.
