Karting News Briefs!

  24 September 2014

anything karting, from anywhere...

  • The Victorian Superkart club is inviting all TaG drivers to go out to Calder Park on October 5 (a Sunday) for 'try-drive' sessions. The runs will take place at the conclusion of the day's Superkart racing and will cost $100 (to cover a day licence and insurance) driving your own kart. "With the current uncertainty within sprint karting, this is the perfect opportunity to try something different and see what long track racing is all about" the Victorian Superkart Club advised KartSportNews. "Nothing needs to be changed on your TaG kart other than the gearing - we suggest 16:76 for Rotax MAX". If you’d like more information, email vskc@tpg.com.au - for an entry form go to: www.superkartsvictoria.com/news.html

  • This is a pretty cool promo video for AIDKA's Dirt Kart Nationals at Loxton, SA, on October 3 to 5. Looks like it will be a pile of fun!

  • The 2014 Southern City Classic (aka Senior Top Guns) will take place at Oakleigh Go Kart Racing Club on Saturday 11th October. It's a seniors-only event with just eight classes, lots of laps (qualifying, then 2 x 12-lap heats), and 18-lap finals that will be under lights. Link to supp regs in the Race Calendar page.

  • Karting Australia has published a "Use of Technical Areas at Race Meetings" document after an issue at the South Australian Championships. The document is a procedure that basically says the Technical Inspector’s area must always be treated as secure and under parc fermé conditions with only authorised personnel in attendance. Full document on the KA site HERE.

  • Winner of the DD2 class at the Rotax Nationals, Formula K's Bas Lammers, talked us through the gear points he uses to get around the Ipswich Kart Club's Willowbank Raceway. There are a few other (low quality) videos on the KSN YouTube Channel HERE.

  • With Jake Kostecki not actually competing in the V8 Touring Car Series round at Phillip Island on the weekend, another West Australian, Alex Rullo, is aiming to claim the honour of the youngest ever competitor in the type of vehicle. Rullo, a former Rotax karter who turned 14 in June, recently won the one-make WA Excel Championship. The Year 9 student will now step into the driver’s seat of a 5-litre Performance Falcon V8 Supercar, initially doing some private tesing before debuting at the Wanneroo 300 at Bargaballo Raceway on November 16.

  • David Sera will venture across the Tasman to contest the 2014 KartSport New Zealand North Island Sprint Championships at Rotorua on the last weekend of October. He will drive his signature Deadly Vegas kart in Rotax Light with support from the local importer, Right Karts. Sera has tasted success on two previous visits, winning the 2011 North Island Sprint Title and the 2012 National Sprint Title, both in Rotax Max Light. Dave will be available help local drivers with information on DPE product, advice and setup, plus driving support.

  • Official 'Team Australia' driver for this year's Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals, Jordan Boys, is raising funds to help get him to Spain for the big event. Boys' Campaign for Spain is now online - see HERE for more information (donations can be made via the Donate link).
