European KF & KF-J Titles Decided This Weekend

The outcome of the CIK-FIA European KF and KF-Junior Championships will be revealed on 30th and 31st August on the 1382m British circuit of PF International in Grantham, Lincolnshire. Before the last of the four Competitions of the European season, the positions are close at the top of the standings in both categories, especially as the dropped scores further complicate the predictions. Battles are usually fierce at the English track which features fast sections and others that are more twisty with kerbs to negotiate skillfully and weather to add to the expected suspense.
Nielsen well placed for the KF title
Unlucky last year at Ortona (ITA), the Dane Nicklas Nielsen (Kosmic-Vortex-Dunlop) will be working hard not to miss out on the KF European title this year. But he is closely followed by 9 points by the Briton Callum Ilott (Zanardi-Parilla-Dunlop), in a better position with his two worst results discounted. Two other Britons are also on level on points close to the lead: Tom Joyner (Zanardi-Parilla-Dunlop), the reigning World Champion, and Lando Norris (FA Kart-Vortex-Dunlop), the 2013 European KF-Junior Champion, a very young talent with some promising performances. For the places of honour, the Finn Niko Kari (Tony Kart-Vortex-Dunlop) is looking good, while the Italians Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart-Parilla-Dunlop), the outgoing World KF-Junior Champion and Felice Tiene (CRG-Parilla-Dunlop), a very experienced Driver, should be able to compete at the top after some bad luck at some stages of the Championship. Whether highly-ranked or not in the battle for the title, they won't fail to enliven the race. The Dutchman Martijn Van Leeuwen (Zanardi-Parilla-Dunlop), the Polish Karol Basz (Tony Kart-Vortex-Dunlop), the French Gabriel Aubry (Tony Kart-Vortex-Dunlop), or the British Jehan Daruvala (FA Kart-Vortex-Dunlop) have the potential to race at the front. Ben Hanley (ART GP-TM-Dunlop), who usually competes in KZ, will race in his own country, joined by other drivers using Wild Cards like Mark Litchfield (Kosmic-TM-Dunlop) at his home track, John Norris (Mach 1-TM-Dunlop), Josh Price (Tony Kart-Parilla-Dunlop) and Harrison Newey (Mach 1-Parilla-Dunlop), the son of the famous Formula 1 engineer Adrian Newey.

Ahmed under pressure in KF-Junior
The leader since the opening race at La Conca (ITA), the British Enaam Ahmed (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega) has so far managed to contain his opponents who are increasingly pressing such as his compatriot Daniel Ticktum (Zanardi-Parilla-Vega), the American Devlin Defrancesco (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) and the German Mick Junior (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega), three drivers consistently among the top performers. Will he continue at PF Int'l? Time will tell ... Also watch out for another young American, Logan Sargeant (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega), and the Swede Anton Haaga (Kosmic-LKE-Vega), the surprise winner in Spain but strangely quiet on his home soil. The title should be decided between these six drivers. In terms of the Competition itself, other names inevitably come to mind. The Italians Lorenzo Travisanutto (PCR-Parilla-Vega) and Leonardo Lorandi (Tony Kart-Parilla-Vega), the Dutch Bard Verkroost (FA Kart-TM-Vega), the American Juan Correa ( Energy-TM-Vega), the Belgian Ulysses De Pauw (Kosmic-Parilla-Vega) or the Britons Max Fewtrell (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega) and Ross Martin (Tony Kart-TM-Vega). Finally we will should watch out for p the Polish Julia Pankiewicz (Tony Kart-TM-Vega), coming from the 2013 CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy, recognized for some very compelling results.
