While Noda-Barnes has been competing at karting events around New South Wales for almost a decade, the 23 year-old believes this weekend’s event will be the most challenging of his career.

“I’m feeling very excited and positive about making my debut in the Championship,” said Noda-Barnes, who will compete in the 125cc KF2 class.

“Being my home track I’ve done a lot of laps around there, so I won’t have to learn a new track but more so the characteristics of the kart and engine that I’ve never raced before.”

Noda-Barnes recently had a test day with the ART Grand Prix team that he will be competing with and the six-time Newcastle Club Champion finished the day aiming for a top five result at this weekend’s event.

“I’m aiming for a good result and believe I can mix it up near the front of the field, probably inside the top five, but I know the competition is going to be tough,” said Noda-Barnes.

“One of the biggest challenges that I will face is going to be the physical side of the kart, but I’ve been working hard on my fitness over the past few weeks.  The long laps in the races are going to be testing and the extra grip level provided by the tyres compared to what I’m used to will also be a real challenge.”

Noda-Barnes will take to the circuit on Friday for practice ahead of qualifying and the heat races being contested from 8:30am on Saturday.  The finals will be held from 8:30am on Sunday.

More than 140 competitors from each state of Australia will be lining up on the grid for the penultimate round of the five-round Championship.  Former Champions include the likes of Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo and V8 Supercar Champion Jamie Whincup.

The Newcastle Kart Racing Club is located on Cameron Park Drive, Cameron Park.  Admission for spectators is free.
