Western Australian Amrit Kandola will make a return to the top level of Australian karting at South Australia’s Bolivar Raceway this weekend.

Kandola will line up with the Patrizicorse team in Round Two of the CIK Stars of Karting Championship presented by Castrol EDGE in the KZ2 class, taking over from Dutchman Marijn Kremers who made a guest appearance at Round One.

It will be the first time Kandola has competed at the top level in more than ten years.

“Over the past few years my focus has really been on studying Dentistry at University.  It was a five year degree, so I really didn’t have the time to commit to race at a proper level,” said Kandola.

“Now that I’ve finished with uni and working I can dedicate more time to practicing and improving.

“I’m very excited about returning to the CIK Championship.  I always treated it as the pinnacle in Karting and believe it is the purest form of karting in Australia, it separates the good from the average.

“It was a shame that it went downhill about ten years ago when I was in Juniors, but it’s good to see it back to where it used to be 10+ years ago.”

Having only competed in a handful of races aboard the KZ2-specification kart, Kandola is under no illusions how competitive the weekend will be.  However, he believes by joining the Patrizicorse team it will provide him with a great platform for a strong result.

“I don’t have any experience racing KZ2 karts against the best in the country, I’ve run a few local events in WA so this weekend will be an entire new level,” said Kandola.

“It will be a privilege to drive for such an amazing team in Patrizicorse.  I’ve known Michael (Patrizi) for many years but we’ve never had the right opportunity to work together.  Hopefully with his experience and the rest of the team it will make for a successful partnership.”

Kandola will be one of 29 drivers in the KZ2 class at this weekend’s second round of the Championship that has attracted 160 entries across the seven classes being contested.

Also joining the Patrizicorse outfit for the remainder of the Championship is Gold Coast’s Broc Feeney in the Rookies class.

“I am always on the look out for the next group of talented young drivers and over the last couple of years I have watched young Broc with a keen interest. His performance in Las Vegas last year, all though (the) result wasn’t there on paper, was outstanding and he truly showed to me his potential to be a very competitive driver,” said Patrizicorse’s Michael Patrizi.

“Hopefully our program with Broc can take him through to racing KF3 next season and some other opportunities.”

Practice begins on Friday with qualifying and the heat races to be contested on Saturday.  Sunday will feature a pair of finals for each class, all of which will be streamed live across the internet.

The Bolivar Raceway is located on Summer Road, Bolivar.
