JUNIOR DRIVERS SET TO IMPRESS AGAIN AT HAMILTON

Some of the best racing came from the Cadet Raket, Cadet ROK and Vortex Mini ROK/Junior Restricted 100cc Yamaha classes at the opening round of this year's CRC Speedshow-backed Top Half kart series in Rotorua last month. And more of the same is expected at the second, Right Karts-sponsored, round in Hamilton this weekend.

Over 100 karters from all over the North Island contested the opening round and a similar number is expected to converge on the AgriSea Raceway near Mystery Creek for the Sunday event.

With three race wins from five starts Connor Davison was the top scorer in the Cadet Raket class at Rotorua but at any one time there were at least 10 of the 23 drivers in the field in the lead group with seven attaining podium finishes (top 3) across the five heats.

Even in the new Cadet ROK class (for 6-11 year-olds) which is set to supersede the Cadet Raket one, round winner Cullern Thorby was one of five of the seven entrants who claimed a place on the podium in at least one of the heats.

The action was just as close at the front in the combined Junior Restricted 100cc Yamaha (10-13 yrs)/Vortex Mini Rok (10-13 yrs) class won by Ben Morrison (Vortex Mini ROK) and Liam Lawson (JR Yamaha). The combined class attracted 24 entries with eight drivers standing on the podium at least once across the five heats.

Other drivers keen, meanwhile, to build on their class points leads after top-scoring at Rotorua are Aidan Robson (Formula Junior), James Blair (125cc Rotax Max Lght), Caleb Hartley (125cc Rotax Max Heavy), CJ Sinclair (Open) and Graham Knight (Clubsport 120).

CRC Speedshow is New Zealand's premier automotive and motorsport expo which this year will be held at Auckland's ASB Showgrounds over the July 19-20 weekend.
