karting info & updates from here & abroad...

  • Dates (though not the venues) have been announced for the 2014 Rotax Euro Challenge (subject to CIK-FIA approval). They are: Race 1 (2 - 6 April), Race 2 (29 May - 1 June), Race 3 (16 - 20 July), Race 4 (3 - 7 September). The Rotax Winter Cup will run 12-16 February and the 2014 Rotax International Open on 23-27 October.

  • Thieves have stolen a kart trailer from Clearview (Adelaide) on Sunday morning (8 September) somewhere between 1am and 6am. There is a $1000 reward on offer for its return. In addition to the home-made trailer (rego V-67489 with yellow NSW plates) was a near new Omega Kart (chassis number C-13015), a new Shane Piper Clubman motor, a JK Tunning Clubman motor, plus lots of spares and racing tools. Any info, please call SAPOL on 131 444, or Hayden Slattery on 0418 301 027.

  • Why wrecking Formula Super A has ruined karting for everyone else - an opinion piece by Mary-Ann Horley. Her argument is that top level drivers should be forced to move on, because when they don't, they can ruin their class for everyone else. There is merit to her case. Have a read on kartlink HERE.

  • The CIK-FIA has announced that, due to a serious lack of competitors, the Asia-Pacific Championship event in Macau for KF, KF-Junior and KZ will not take place. A minimum participation of 20 drivers per category is required for a CIK-FIA Championship to be awarded. This condition has not been met, therefore the October 10-12 event is cancelled.

  • Karting star Joseph Mawson is one step closer to making his dreams of being a world champion come true. "There is no point dreaming unless you dream big." Article on on the DailyTelegraph.

  • The 2013 South Australian Closed State Titles have been cancelled. The event was to have taken place at Mount Gambier on September 21-22 but has been canned due to a lack of genuine entries. The club will refund all paid entries.

  • Data logging meets social media. ReRace data is captured during a track session, then you can upload it to the organisation's social media sharing site for others to watch - and for them to race against! Data sessions from the same track by various drivers can be re-run as a virtual race, comparing how you would have gone if you had been in a real race! Sort of defeats the purpose of going wheel to wheel with a rival (which is what racing is about, isn't it?), but will surely prove popular for the online tech boffins. "ReRace captures, shares and compares your performance".
