Arrow Wins 92nd National Title With Rotax Light Victory

press release 4 September 2013

J&A Tuning/KTEQ Truck Rentals/Sera Driver Development’s “Deadly” Dave Sera has once again proved that he is the man to beat in Australia when it comes to the Rotax Light category.

This Australian championship makes his remarkable record now seven titles from nine years. Including his second place finish in 2006, it is a truly fantastic record of sustained success in arguably the toughest field assembled each year.

This victory now takes David to equal position with the great John Pizzaro. Being only 24 years old, there is no doubt Dave will break this record before his driving days are done.

The weekend started positive with a front row start for the heat races on Saturday with a qualifying time of 43.848 versus the pole time of 43.843. David won heat 1 & 2 and drove a calculated race in heat 3 for P2.

David won the Pre Final but pole sitter Brenton Mountjoy and New Zealand multi national champion Daniel Kinsman pushed Sera all the way to the line.

There was much anticipation for the 20 lap final with D Sera, Mountjoy, D Kinsman, Carey, Ford, Greenbury, Cramer, Lehane, Dutch World KZ Champion Joey Hanssen and M Kinsman making up the top 10. The reigning national champion, Pierce Lehane, was the one that everyone thought could upstage Deadly Dave if could find his pace from Thursday & Friday practice.

Once the green light went on David pushed hard and as he has done somany times before, put a gap early on the field which forced Mountjoy and Dan Kinsman to battle over second spot for 10 laps before Kinsman broke clear of Mountjoy and set about his pursuit of Sera. At the 16 lap mark Kinsman started to reign in Sera and by the last lap they were bumper to bumper which had the large crowd on edge.

It was an absolute nail bitter with a drag to the finish line, David was unsure if he had won until he saw the No 1 tag go onto his kart. David was physically exhausted and commented that he was absolutely spent and was so relieved and ecstatic that he was able to hold on and secure a memorable victory, the 15th of his remarkable career.

David’s father & gun mechanic, George, was a very relieved man. It was a very tense and nervous last 3 laps for George, but ultimately a very memorable Fathers' Day present.
