Preview: BOC Launceston Clubman Cup

press release 28 August 2013

The Launceston Kart Club this weekend will be holding arguably the biggest race meeting held in Tasmania outside the State Title.

The 2013 Clubman Cup which is supported by BOC Launceston is the 17th year in which the race meeting has been run and is the one of the most sought after trophies in Tasmanian karting.

The feature classes of Clubman Light and Clubman Heavy have attracted a field of 23 of the states finest drivers.

The Clubman Cup also includes Junior Clubman, Over 40 Clubman Pro and Clubman Super Heavy with a total of 35 drivers spread across all clubman divisions.

From the entries received it is a fair chance that members of the LKC could walk away with four of the five Clubman Cups on Offer. Launceston’s Nathan Zuj will start favourite in Clubman Light, but will have stiff opposition from Devonport’s Brody Appleby and Hobart’s Brad Hobden. Another Launceston driver in Damon Shelton will also be one to watch as he is a past winner of this event.

The Clubman Heavy field sees another pair of Launceston karters head the list of possible winners with Zane Wyatt and Troy Stone coming off good mainland results likely to battle out victory with Hobart’s Mitchell Evans amongst a host of quality drivers.

Clubman Super Heavy has a field of six with Perth’s Scott Wrigley the early favourite. We also may see a winner from the very first Clubman Cup back up with another victory 17 years later when Stephen Bricknell competes in Over 40’s Clubman Pro.

The Junior Clubman race is a race in three with Wade McLean, Morgan Jakobovski and Jacob Morris all having claims of favourite.

Support racing includes Cadets, Rookies, Junior National( Light & Heavy), Tag Restricted ( Light & Heavy) and Over 40’s Pro and Super Heavy.

As a special treat held during the Saturday practise, Tasmania Police will be on hand with their radar gun clocking each driver to determine the fastest in each class.

Practise Saturday 10am till 5pm and racing from 9am Sunday September 1st
