Edgar’s Hyundai MSA/TKM Super One Series: Round 4 Clay Pigeon 24/25 August

After a long break the MSA series returned to action at the hill top circuit in Dorset, where the sun failed to shine until late in the afternoon.  There was even a brief rain shower for the last morning heats.  It’s the shortest circuit visited, only a 33s lap for the fastest class, so the pressure on the drivers was unrelenting.

IAME Cadet MSA British Cadet Championship

Alex Quinn led much of the first final, briefly succumbing to Tom Wood until a frantic last lap.  Whilst those in front over-defended, William Pettit picked four karts off for a magnificent win over Jonny Edgar and York.  Wood had a five place penalty elevating Alex Quinn to fourth.  Wood then had an excursion at the start of the second final, whilst Pettitt was delayed by a spinner leaving Quinn with a large lead.  Despite a broken seat stay, York hauled in the leader and won with Kiern Jewiss up to third. “Alex defended hard at the first turn and didn’t get a good run down the hill so I got him and defended to the end.  A big thank you to my Dad and Rocky.” said York.

Junior TKM ABkC National Championship

Under slight pressure at the beginning of the first final Stephen Letts eased away from Matt Davies whilst Daniel Baybutt slipped past Dino Lee at the horseshoe. Davies faded fast towards the end and only just avoided relegation to third by Baybutt on the finish line, with Kyle Hornby chasing Lee. Letts was under unrelenting pressure from Baybutt in the second final, the pair trading the lead twice until Baybutt over-shot the exit of Billys Blind corner by over defending the inside line. That dropped him to fifth, with Matthew Round-Garrido well placed to pick up second over Lee and Davies.

Results Final 1: 1 Stephen Letts (Tonykart); 2 Matt Davies (Tonykart); 3 Daniel Baybutt (Jade); 4 Dino Lee (Tonykart); 5 Kyle Hornby (DSG)
Results Final 2: 1 Letts; 2 Matthew Round-Garrido (Tonykart); 3 Lee; 4 Davies; 5 Baybutt

TKM Extreme ABkC National Championship

As the dominant Will van Es powered into the first final lead Luke Graver tried to cut into the train for third but was tipped into a spin, Paul Monks also losing places. Simon Vercoe took up the chase but was put back by Charlie Bruce-White.  That was until Jack New picked both Vercoe and Bruce-White for second place.  Van Es had it all his own way in the second final as well, despite New almost managing to snatch the lead at the start but running wide. New leapfrogged Vercoe on his recovery and set off after Bruce-White, relieving him of second on the penultimate lap.  They swapped places twice but New prevailed and Douglas Hayford thrust his nose ahead of Bruce-White over the finish.

Results Final 1: 1 Will Van Es (Tonykart); 2 Jack New (Tonykart); 3 Charlie Bruce-White (Tonykart); 4 Simon Vercoe (Tal-Ko); 5 Douglas Hayford (Tonykart)
Results Final 2: 1 Van Es; 2 New; 3 Hayford; 4 Bruce-White; 5 Vercoe

KF Junior MSA British Junior Kart Championship

Jehan Daruvala scored two great wins despite having a heat non-finish due to a broken exhaust and is well placed to challenge Daniel Ticktum for the British title. Ticktum lost his early final one lead and several places to Jamie Caroline, but Daruvala then carved his way to the front, pulling out 3.5s.  Ticktum came out on top of the second place battle but Caroline was excluded for driving standards from fourth, and Philip Rawson had a five place penalty. In the second final Daruvala eased away as Rawson recovered to second over Ticktum and Ross Martin.  Enaam Ahmed and Caroline came up from the back to fifth and sixth.  “It was all about consistency,” said the Sahara Force India backed winner.

Results Final 1: 1 Jehan Daruvala (Alonso); 2 Daniel Ticktum (Alonso); 3 Ross Martin (Wright); 4 Dean MacDonald (Kosmic); 5 Billy Monger (Tonykart)
Results Final 2: 1 Daruvala; 2 Philip Rawson (Tonykart); 3 Ticktum; 4 Martin; 5 Enaam Ahmed (Alonso)

Formula KGP National Championship

Initially chased by Toby Sowery, Mark Litchfield eased clear for the first final win as Sowery faded.  Championship leader Bobby Game was mired in mid field after being excluded under weight in a heat, his radiator having lost all its coolant. Sowery was helpless to resist the challenges from Denis Gorman and Danny Keirle whilst Game finished ninth. Although Litchfield got away well at the start of the second final his pace slowed as he suffered tyre degradation. Stefan Di Resta was on the move, but Dan Stocks came off in the hairpin during the pass for fourth. Gorman had leapfrogged Sowery  and ran cleanly up the inside of Litchfield’s kart for the lead and the win, soon followed by James Gornall as Litchfield faded to seventh, just ahead of Game. “I’ve been hiding in the shadows looking after my tyres,” quipped Gorman.

Results Final 1: 1 Mark Litchfield (Kosmic); 2 Dennis Gorman (Maranello); 3 Danny Keirle (Jade); 4 Toby Sowery (Tonykart); 5 James Gornall (Intrepid).
Results Final 2: 1 Gorman; 2 Gornall; 3 Sowery; 4 Stefan Di Resta (Alonso); 5 Keirle
