Central Queensland Series, Round 2

This weekend the CQ Series moved to Rockhampton with good numbers on a great weekend for racing. The meeting saw karters from Rocky, Gladstone, Emerald, Mackay, Bundaberg and Gympie competing.

Well done to the officials and karters as the meeting ran well and finished on time once again allowing travelling karters plenty of time to get home in the afternoon.

Racing started with the Cadets and Gladstone’s Josh Butler repeated his win from CQ Round 1, well done. In the Rookies it was local Joel Jamieson who came out on top of the class.

Gladstone’s Jack Bussey took out the Junior National Heavy Class ahead of a much improved result from Kane Bycroft, also of Gladstone. Jack’s win was also a repeat of CQ Round 1 result.

Queensland Sportsman Light again had the largest field with good racing and Troy Loeskow from Bundaberg turned the tables on Gladstone’s Craig “Skettie” Butler winning the event with Butler second.

In Queensland Sportsman Heavy it was Emerald’s Jeremy Sonter coming out the winner once again.  Jeremy chased home by a trio of Gladstone Karters, Tony Wynne, Denis Butler and Connor Robertson. Hard luck story was young Connor Robertson who was running a good second until a tyre deflated in the roll up for the final and he did not start.

The TAG 100 victory went to Rick Weaver followed by Ken Prichard and Steven Pool, all of Gladstone. Jack Bussey was on the winners list again in Junior National Light ahead of Bundaberg’s Joseph Black and Keegan Baker of Rockhampton.

Queensland Sportsman Super Heavy went to Round 1 winner Hayden Maguire of Emerald followed home by Dave Roberts (Gladstone) and Michael Rolf (Emerald). Tag 125 Light was won by Troy Loeskow of Bundaberg with the minor placings going to Ben Finch (Emerald) and Aiden Newton (Rockhampton).

The Tag 125 Heavy battle between Matt Dicinoski and Travis Martin (Rockhampton and Gladstone) continued with Matt again taking the honors. Tristan Strickland from Bundaberg coming in third.

Sportsman of the Day Award went to Brett Aird of Emerald who quit his race to assist Gladstone’s Keith “Meatball” Butler who had collided heavily with the tyre barrier. Keith was fine as was Brett’s sportsmanship. Great effort Brett.
