Steel Matting For Rotax Exhaust

  4 July 2013

A special new steel isolating mat has been approved for use in AKA Rotax racing in Australia. The steel matting is used in addition to the white isolating mat fitted in all Rotax Max exhausts.

The new piece is not mandatory, but has been introduced to extend the life of the white matting.

"As per the Australian ‘World Rules’ the new steel isolating mat must meet specific installation requirements should you choose to use it" IKD communicated in a statement.

Installation of the additional steel isolating mat:

  1. Position the steel mat 10-12mm from the end of the tube, and wrap the steel mat all the way around the tube.
  2. Fix the steel mat to the perforated tube with the hose clamps (as supplied) at a distance of 18mm ± 2mm from the end of the tube, making sure they are tight enough so the steel mat cannot move.
  3. Wrap a new white isolating mat around the fixed steel mat and fit the whole package back into the silencer.
  4. Fix the perforated tube to the silencer tube by means of 3 Allen screws (M4X12) and 3 locking nuts (M4).

The optional steel matting is now available to purchase through Rotax Dealers. The kit retails for $30 and is Part Number 297983.

The kit includes:

  • 1 x Steel Isolating Mat
  • 1 x Hose Clamp
  • 1 x Stainless Tie Wrap
  • 1 x Installation Instruction
