CARNIVAL OF KARTS TO FIRE UP AT COCKBURN NEXT WEEKEND

The Tiger Kart Club in Western Australia will host its premier karting event of the year, the Alloysteel International Carnival of Karts, next weekend (May 11/12) where more than 250 competitors will be racing for in excess of $15,000 in cash and prizes on the super fast and technical Cockburn International Raceway.

Classes range from the Cadets, where drivers as young a seven will be in action,  right through to World Championship-level KZ2 karts.

The driver’s list for KZ2 is headed by 2011 World Cup winner Joey Hanssen from the Netherlands and along with a number of Australia’s top drivers from various parts of the country, including last year’s Castrol EDGE CIK Stars of Karting Series runner-up Kyle Ensbey.

Last weekend, Hanssen won round two of the 2013 CIK Stars of Karting Series at Bolivar Raceway in South Australia recently with Ensbey claiming the runner-up spot.

Hanssen is spending 2013 working for Lenzo Kart Australia while Ensbey competes under the PatriziCorse banner, which is led by Western Australian V8 Supercar and Porsche Carrera Cup driver Michael Patrizi.

It is anticipated that more than 30 of the 40-plus horsepower machines will line up for battle, and with the standard of both driving and equipment at a World Championship level, the 48.06 lap record set by Ben Van Ryt last year looks to be under threat for 2013.

Last year’s event featured some of the biggest fields assembled in Western Australia and was enjoyed by the many spectators who came down to watch the action first hand. The Restricted 125 and Clubman Pro classes enjoyed more than 35 entries in 2012 and what a sight is was to see them and many of the other huge fields racing tooth and nail for the win.

It is expected that there will be more than 250 competitors lining up on the grid across the 12 categories as they battle across more than 40km of racing, which includes a qualifying session and national-level 15km, winner takes all, final.

The most anticipated part of the day is the random draw prizes where a driver could be going home with one of five new engines, a new Fernando Alonso Junior Kart or one of the many other awesome prizes the club and its sponsors have provided.  All drivers must be present at presentations to be eligible for the prizes.

The Carnival of Karts will be held on May 11th and 12th with racing starting at 9.00am.  The Cockburn International Raceway is located on Gemma Rd, Henderson.
