Preview: Celebration Day 'Gumball 400'

press release 30 April 2013

A little over nine years ago the NSW Speedway Kart Club executive founded the idea of the Annual Celebration Day, a race meeting where members, families and guests are given the opportunity to celebrate and thank the many people who, over the 22 years since the establishment of the Club, have worked so hard to raise it to its high standards as a leader in speedway.

Over the years Life Members and dedicated volunteers have been honoured on Class trophies, however this year the day will be used to say Thank You to everyone who has played a part in the building of the Club's history.

The NSW Speedway Kart Club has always prided itself on the Club spirit and bonding amongst its members which is the reason that it has been so successful over so many years.

Through good times and bad it has been the members who have rallied and made the most of every race meeting and it is this legacy that this year’s executive would like to acknowledge.

In an interesting twist to the meeting the Cadets, Rookies and Juniors will be racing for different trophies to the senior classes.

The junior classes will this year, as part of the Celebration Day, be contesting the “Gumball 400“ and will have some very "cool" trophies presented at the end of the day.

The stand outs and favourites in each Class will be Connor Moreau (Cadets) with three wins from three Rounds, Andrew Sayre (Rookies) with two from three and, in the Juniors, Daniel Sayre, again with three from three.  These talented drivers however will have a number of drivers keen to take home the honours and will, as usual, no doubt provide some great speedway racing.

The senior classes, Clubman Light and Heavy and KT Modified Combined, will be contesting “The Nepean Shootout” and, like the younger drivers, will be racing for some very different  types of trophies.

Unlike the junior classes, the seniors have not seen a stand out performer from the first three Rounds with all classes having a different winner for each Round, such is the closeness of the competition.

In Clubman Light it had been the ladies dominating the first two Rounds with Katelyn Hickey and Alana Onley taking the chequered flag, however Jake Baines stood on the top step of the podium, saving grace for the men at the last Round.

In Clubman Heavy Matt Elliott, Gary Slarke and Les Green have all tasted victory, unfortunately a big roll over last meeting for Gary Slarke will see him miss this event while he recovers.

This year the 2 KT Modified classes have come together as one and, again, three different winners have emerged.  Veterans Brad Cunneen and Donald Stevens have been very quick against the younger competition showing they can still race as hard and fast as ever, but current Club Champion, Michael Jordan, in his one and only race meeting this year, showed they still have a little catching up to do when he took out Round 2 in very stylish form.

The question is - will we see three different winners or will one of the already successful Round winning drivers become the first 2-time winner this year?

To find out the answer,  you need to come out to Castlereagh and watch the speedway stars of tomorrow learn their craft today as they contest Round 4 of their 2013 championships.

"The Celebration Day" race meeting is being held at the Nepean Motorsport Complex on Rickards Road, Castlereagh, on Sunday, 5 May 2013, with racing commencing at 10am.

Entry to the venue is $5 per adult to see 24 events and afterwards spectators are encouraged to stay and join in the celebrations of the day’s results.  The Club has a full canteen to assist you with all the food and drinks you require as you spend a lazy Sunday on the grass hill watching fantastic speedway action.

The NSWSKC would like to acknowledge and thank all their corporate partners for their continued support throughout 2013.
