Kartin' bits 'n' pieces...

  • Video of Newcastle Knights' Kurt Gidley, Jeremy Smith, Jarrod Mullen and Chris Houston having a run around the Newcastle kart track in the lead up to last weekend's Rotax Pro Tour round is now on the internet. Smith and Mullen told Knights TV in the pits after their "race" that the speed of the karts took them by surprise. Article and video HERE on the team's own website.

  • Woodgate Racing is now an importer of RLV exhausts. Owner Peter Woodgate confirmed to KartSportNews that he will stock RLV product, such as the RLV R4 exhaust/expansion chamber and silencer that is used in the growing Stock Honda 125cc Superkart class. RLV pipes are also used on a number of other karting engines, including four-strokes.

  • The Wanneroo Kart Track in Perth is currently closed due to works at the circuit. It will be closed to all karts through to Monday April 22, then again from May 6 to July 26 inclusive. "Reticulation to the infield is being installed in a couple of weeks and the profiling and re-surfacing of the track is happening during May" the club has informed its membership. "After re-surfacing, the track needs to cure for a time before hire karts can use it, and a much longer time before racing karts can use it, because of their stickier tyres and the greater lateral forces they exert on the surface." The track is scheduled to be ready for the Western Cup Final on July 27 and 28. Full details on the Tiger Club's website HERE.

  • The MSA and Super One Series have confirmed the 2013 MSA British Short Circuit Kart Championship has been transferred from the KF2 class to the KZ1 gearbox category. Insufficient entries were received to run KF Senior class. The KZ1 class will run at 180kg and use Dunlop's DEH slick and KT13 wet. The three round series starts next month. "This should be a huge boost for gearbox karting in the UK following the great popularity this purist class has had on the continent" Super One Series promoter John Hoyle said.

  • Florida Winter Tour organisers have awarded the Dan Wheldon Karting Ambassador Award to karting veteran, Alan Rudolph. The 42 year old from Arizona has a long and successful history of racing and working in the karting industry, dating back to 1979 when he competed in his first race. FWT organiser Bill Wright honoured Dan's name with the creation of the award. It is given annually to the Florida Winter Tour participant who best represents karting with a fiercely competitive spirit, a helpful and positive attitude, and a professional image.
