Boccolacci Retains Championship Lead

press release 11 April 2013

Dorian Boccolacci showed again all his extraordinary talent at the second round of the WSK Master Series, held this weekend at Sarno, near Naples.

After dominating the first part of the Italian meeting, he just lacked a bit of speed to be able to win during the final phases, but that did not stop him from showing his out-of-common fighting spirit, which enabled him to finally climb onto the second step of the podium and to consolidate his leadership position in the Championship.

With its 1,700 meters of length, the Circuito Internazionale Napoli is known for being very demanding for engines in its long straight stretches, but also tough for chassis in its tight and winding parts. As far as driving is concerned, a farsighted strategy and guts when it comes to braking are needed to make the difference. In a few words, it is not an easy circuit. Energy Corse, TM and GFR, the engine mechanic, worked hard to provide Dorian with a competitive kart already during practice. After conquering the leadership in his group and a second place in timed qualifying, the driver from Lotus F1 Junior Team also emerged head and shoulders above his competitors by conquering the SuperPole, an incredible race with the 12 best drivers that lasts for just a few laps.

Dorian achieved another perfect score in the qualifying heats with 3 victories in a row in three races, twice with the fastest lap time and without ever making the slightest mistake. A masterpiece! The French driver's supremacy on his first season in KF definitely annoyed his competitors and rival teams made every possible effort to stop him. Indeed, the battle proved to be harder on Sunday, the day of the final phases.

Boccolacci lacked an average of 0.3 seconds in the pre-final to aim for victory, but he fought hard anyway not to lose too much ground and he achieved an interesting 3rd place, which enabled him to be in the second inside line at the start of the final race. The team worked hard during the break to fill in the performance gap of his Energy/TM, but the set-up they chose proved effective only too late in the race, when Karol Basz was already out of reach in the lead of the race. While everybody thought that Dorian would climb onto the third step of the podium, he made a magic overtaking and passed Martin Kodric on the last turn, grabbing the second place just a few hundred meters away from the finish line.

"Winning the final was not possible"Dorian explained after the podium.

"Karol (Basz) was too fast at mid-race, I couldn't do anything to catch him. But I must say that I feel very comfortable with KF front brakes and I admit I love delaying braking as much as I can to pass another driver. In these conditions, the second step of the podium is a great satisfaction for me, even more so considering that I am still the leader of the championshi".
