It has been confirmed two young Australian karters, Dimitri Agathos (Sydney, NSW) and Joshua Smith (Townsville, QLD), will be linking with the Kosmic Racing Department for the up coming CIK-FIA European Championships.

The Kosmic Racing Australia drivers will compete in the two-round championships in the world’s top direct drive karting category, KF.

For Agathos this will be his first attempt at racing internationally, while for Smith this will be his second attempt after making his debut in the CIK-FIA Asia Pacific Championships last year in Macau.

The pair will be heading over to complete a test day with the factory team to help familiarize themselves with the team and their mechanics for the championships on the weekend of June 8/9 at the Alcaniz circuit in Spain. They will then compete in the opening round of the championship at the same venue the following weekend. Round two will be contested in Italy on July 18-21.

With in excess of 100 entries expected for the championships, the goal for both Agathos and Smith will be simply to make the 34-kart final, which would be a significant achievement within itself. The pair is under no illusion of the challenge that lies ahead of them at the event.

"I’m really looking forward to racing at the first round in Alcaniz Spain, this is a great opportunity for me,” said Agathos.

“To be a part of the official Kosmic team overseas is going to be amazing, I can’t wait to get over there.

“I would like to thank my parents for all they do for me and also my major sponsor Hogs Breath Cafe North Parramatta for their ongoing support. This opportunity would not be possible without the support of these people and I really have to thank Peter Galvin for all his help in arranging the deal with the Kosmic Racing Department.

“While I’m already thinking about Europe, my next aim will be to get a good result at the upcoming round of the CIK Stars of Karting Series in a couple of weeks time in Adelaide.”

For Smith, who was recently announced as a part of the Australian Motor Sport Foundation Rookie Rising Stars program for the second year, he believes the experience he gained last year will prepare him for the upcoming championships.

“After last year I have been very keen to go back overseas and race. This time will be another experience for me as last year it was in Macau, this time it’s in the heartland of karting – Europe,” said the Townsville driver.

“I have been working very hard on my fitness to make sure I am ready for the challenge and feeling very confident at the moment after being included once again in the AMSF Rookie Rising Star program, this is a huge honor for me and I will be doing everything I can to repay their faith in me.

“It won't be easy over there but I will be driving for one of the best teams in Europe so I will have everything I need to succeed. Once again I would like to thank the AMSF, my parents and Peter Galvin for their ongoing support.”

The Kosmic Racing Department will be offering the two young Australian drivers the very best chance to show the world how competitive they can be. The factory Kosmic team has shown some very good speed this year with their drivers regularly fighting for podium positions at the recent European WSK rounds.
