Saturday Report, Rotax Euro Challenge

press release 31 March 2013

First Race Day of ROTAX MAX Euro Challenge at Genk

Day two of the 2013 ROTAX MAX Euro Challenge opening round in Genk (BE) started with much better weather conditions: A dry track and even slightly warmer temperatures provided best ingredients for the first race action which included not less than 22 qualification heats.

The great question was, if the UK drivers would be able to keep up their dominant pace, they showed in Friday's time practice. With junior Josh Price (Chris Rogers M/Sport), senior Connor Jupp (Dan Holland Racing), DD2 driver Sean Babington (Dan Holland Racing) and DD2 Masters pilot Florent Lambert (Tatum Racing) the "British armada" set the benchmarks in every single category. Now they had to confirm their speed in the races. At last the spectators at Genk and more than 17.000 viewers in the live TV streaming at home got to witness some new faces taking the lead.

In junior category Josh Price (Chris Rogers M/Sport) defended his top position, just as Florent Lambert (Tatum Racing) in DD2 Masters. As for DD2 category Belgium`s Xen de Ruwe now took the charge thus putting himself on pole position on his home track. A very close decision was reserved for the seniors: After the heats Harry Webb (Strawberry Racing) and James Singleton (Coles Racing), both from the UK, were equal in points. Since Singleton was the quicker man in qualifying practice, he was the one gaining pole position for Sunday.

So all told one has to state: The UK drivers are still the ones to be beaten – yet Xen de Ruwe managed to and surely will seize his chances for his home match at Genk.

After a long and thrilling day the grids for the final phase are almost set. On Sunday morning the second chance heats will complete the classification before the first prefinal is scheduled for 11:20 a.m (local time), brought to you live on www.rgmmcmedia.com.
