1976 Hong Kong Kart Prix

The Australian Vintage Kart Prix will run at Ipswich in March and one of the awards up for grabs is the 'Hong Kong Nostalgia' trophy.

It will be part of a Sunday afternoon feature event for Era 3 (1970 - 80) karts driven by any driver (National or International) who has competed in Hong Kong.

As such, it will feature a number of the drivers (and possibly karts) that appear in the images below. The scans are from a photocopy of the November 1976 issue of "Hong Kong Karter" magazine (supplied by Raymond Harrison).

The Hong Kong International Kart Prix ran from 1967 to 1992. From 1968 the race was held on a temporary circuit in Victoria Park in the heart of the city. For a time it was sponsored by Marlboro and became the highest prize-money karting race in the world.

Drivers came from around the globe, including many from Australia and New Zealand, to compete in what many regarded was an event that was second only to the World Championships.

Australians fared well in the 1976 edition, winning a number of races. In fact, three Aussie ladies filled the podium in the "Bang Bang International Ladies Race"!
