Mackay Dries Out For April Races

by David Sturgeon 26 April 2017

Mackay Kart Club drivers were happy to be back on track last Saturday for the April Race meeting. The track was looking fantastic again after all the hard work members put in to clean up after parts of the track resembled a lake rather than a race track in the aftermath of cyclone Debbie.

The untimely weather did mean that the planed 1st round of the QLD State Championships that were scheduled to run earlier this month had to be postponed, but a new date will be decided on soon - so keep any eye on the Karting Queensland web site, the club's Facebook page or KartSportNews for new dates.

We had 33 drivers over 8 classes racing and the class to watch was Cadet 12 with all 10 drivers racing hard all day to get the best position for the final, knowing that their finishing order in the final would be their overall position for the meeting.

Young Cruise Mason had to take to the grass off the start of the final to avoid another kart coming into the first corner. He ended up at the back of the field but was able to drive back to 7th position. A great drive by Cruise, who kept his head and slowly clawed back the positions he had lost.

Overall  winner for the meeting was Max Deguara, followed home in second by Damian White and Dominic Attard filling the last spot on the podium. Well done to all the boys and girls who gave the spectators a great show to watch all day.

The senior classes were combined, with KA3 Light, Medium, Heavy and TAG 125 Restricted Heavy all on track together. It proved to be a lot of fun for the drivers all having their own battles on track.

The club's next race meeting will be the Sugar City Titles over the weekend of 10/11 June. It's sure to bring lots of drivers from all over Queensland to the Mackay track to compete for the trophies, so be sure to mark your calendar.

Till next time, stay safe and drive smart - DS
