Karting Tasmania Statewide Series Round 2
The Spreyton Cider Andrew Walter Constructions supported series hit the North Western Kart Club on the weekend with some entertaining racing provided by the karters.
Cadet 9
A small but enthusiastic field greeted the starter with all four drivers just starting their karting careers. In the finals Cooper Synield grabbed the win ahead of brothers Cameron and Rhys Jeffrey.
Cadet 12
Cadet 12 has a strong group of drivers with eleven lining up. Launceston Kart Club Member Toby Callow dominating the meeting clean sweeping the days racing. Darcy Whelan had been the best of the rest in the heats but spun early in the final with Denzil Sargent and Kaiden Ford all getting caught up and ended in the gravel trap, this promoted Xavier Renshaw to the lead battle with Emilie Williams having her best drive of her career with a great third place finish.
KA4 Junior Light
Perhaps the best final of the day with Fletcher Bellars from the Southern Tasmanian Kart Club taking home the win ahead of Campbell Whelan and Ethan Wyllie, all three took turns a the front with some pretty committed racing from the three young guns, In the earlier heat racing wins went to Bellars in heat one, Wyllie in heat 2 and Jesse Keeling in heat three.
KA4 Junior Heavy
Another Launceston Kart Club member to clean sweep the days racing was Lochie Dalton, Dalton dominated the field with clear wins in each race after claiming qualifying by some half second. Second on the day went to Brock Lamont with Kyle Love taking third after a strong drive thru the field in the final.
KA4 Senior Light
Unfortunately only three divers competing the class was not validated for series points however North Western Kart Club member Keenan Slater had the pace on the day to hold off brother Johnah with Gemma Wyllie third.
KA4 Masters
Freddy Cocca clean swept the days racing from Geoff Lawrence and Garry Lee with the unlucky Tim Hinds failing to finish the final after holding second place early on.
KA3 Senior Light
Another class not to be validated for series points was KA3 Senior Light, but young Ellis Dickenson drove a superb final to catch and pass the more experienced heavy drivers to take the win with Leah Beechey second.
KA3 Senior Medium
A good field of drivers greeting the starter with local ace Shane Bray taking the honours in qualifying and heat one, but from when the track started to show signs of grip Kurtis Love showed he had the pace and won the remaining heats and the final with Jackson Callow second and Murray Dadson rounding out the podium.
TaG Restricted Light
The biggest field of the day produced some very exciting races with Nicholas Walpole and Harry Ward sharing heat wins after Walpole claimed qualifying. In the final Ward took the win ahead of Walpole and Brodie Sward, the latter two being the beneficiary of a penalty handed to Andrew Wagner who had crossed the line second.
TaG Restricted Medium
Another big field with thirteen drivers, qualifying went the way of Allan Sheahen, with heat racing fast and furious the top spot in heat one went to Scott Hildyard, Heat two and three to Tasmanian Champion Shane Stonehouse, but the start of the final resulted in a bit of a mess on the first corner eliminating Sheahen, Stonehouse and an unlucky Caitlin Fitch. This left Troy Sheanen to make a last lap pass on Hildyard to take the win, third went to Jacob Costello.
TaG 125 Light
Last year’s TaG Heavy Statewide Series Champion Alastair Lee claim his first feature win in Tag Light after claiming two heat wins and the all-important final, fast man in qualifying was Jade Waddington who also took a win in heat 2, third went to Hobart’s Brad Hobden.
TaG 125 Heavy
Like the Light field a quality line up greeted the starter in TaG Heavy with Southern Tasmanian Kart Club member Mitch Evans grabbing the top spot in qualifying, but from then on Launceston’s Troy Stone had the field covered on pace and claimed the win in the final, Jonathan McDonald took second in two heats and the final after Evan slipped back to claim the last spot on the podium.
