Hickey Sisters Make History

press release 8 December 2016

The Hickey sisters, Katelyn and Brittany, made history over the weekend at the NSW Speedway Kart Club presentation, when they became the first siblings to lock out first and second in the overall Senior NSWSKC Championship.

Thanks to their consistent form, which saw both sisters come away with multiple championship round wins in the KT Open combined class, 20-year-old Katelyn managed to edge out her younger sister Brittany to take first place in the eight-round championship by a mere two points, while 16-year-old Brittany claimed an impressive second-place finish in her very first season with the senior class.

“I couldn’t be happier to take out the championship win in my final season in speedway karts,” expressed Katelyn, who has experienced great success in her Speedway Kart career, with multiple NSW Title victories under her belt.

“Brittany finishing second makes it even more special. We’re so happy to have made history with a one-two finish and it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our family, our team and our sponsors, so we’d like to say a huge thank you to them.”

The night was made even more special for Brittany when she was presented with the Best and Fairest award, as voted by the officials, proving that she will no doubt continue to be one to watch in coming seasons.

After 10 years in Speedway Karts, Katelyn will now concentrate on her racing in Late Models, while Brittany on the other hand, is looking to build on her consistency in order to go one better next season in the NSWSKC competition and clinch the club championship honours.

Katelyn and Brittany Hickey would like to thank their sponsors, Dean’s Tyre, Brake & Mechanical Repairs and Giffen Signs, for their continued support throughout the 2016 season. Special thanks go to Katelyn and Brittany’s mum Cassandra, dad Dean, grandma Lesley, Brett Gale, Brad Giffen and Matt Geering.
