Fraser's Champion of Champions

  5 October 2016

Marcus Fraser has taken out the Champion of Champions feature race at the 2016 Junior Sprint Classic.

Held annually by the Eastern Lions club, the Champion of Champions is for KA3 Junior (nee Junior Clubman) with the starting grid based off the final result of the KA3 Junior class earlier in the day.

Fraser had qualified 10th and after heat results of 5th and 20th, grabbed 4th (off grid 11) in the pre-final and 2nd in the Final, 1.8s behind class winner Jordyn Sinni.

"(In the) Champion of Champions race I managed to to start 2nd and go back to 3rd with some good fights in the 20 lap race" he wrote on Facebook.

"For the last lap I was 3rd on the straight and thought to myself 'nah, this is it, 3rd", but when second put it under 1st, I followed through and made a beautiful, amazing move as some said and into first and held on to win! This weekend has been one of my best weekends ever."

Ironically, Fraser's big win came in his final karting event. He and his dad are building up a car for Hyundai Excel racing.

This year the Junior Sprint attracted 148 entries (last year, 151) across 9 classes, the largest being KA4 Junior Light (24) and KA3 Junior (23).

Matt Morris and his #Racingforpink machine, 5th in KA4 Junior Heavy. Teammate Ayrton Flippi was leading the Cadet 9 final when his throttle cable snapped early in the race. The team raised $274.50 on the day via a Breast Cancer donation tin.
