Armstrong Confident Ahead of Euro KZ Final

press release 28 July 2016

A strong run at the recent German Kart Championship (DKM) round at the same circuit has given young Kiwi kart ace Marcus Armstrong a confidence boost ahead  of the final round of this year's CIK-FIA European KZ Karting Championships at Genk in Belgium over the weekend.

The 15-year-old works Tony Kart driver from Christchurch qualified second, ran at the front in the heats and only slipped back to 10th place in the Final at the DKM event when his kart's tyres went off.

"Genk is a great track, we had a lot of speed and with only two or three of the top drivers in KZ not running at that meeting it was a good indication of where we are," he said from the track this morning (NZ time).

"If we can maintain our pace but improve our sliding (tyre) issues we'll be OK. We have a few new developments on the kart to test this week so I'm really looking forward to seeing how we go."

Armstrong finished 12th in the Final at the opening round of this year's CIK-FIA European KZ Championships at Essay in France in April but was an early victim of contact and failed to finish the Final at the second at Zuera in Spain in May.

His Tony Kart teammate Marco Ardigo heads into the final European KZ Championship round this weekend at the top of the points standings two points ahead of Sodi-TM driver Jeremy Iglesias with Kosmic-Vortex driver Patrik Hajek third.

Live streaming coverage of the Finals at the meeting is available over the web via cikfiachampionship.com and cikfia.tv
