AWC Motorsport Academy Set For AKC Debut in Dubbo

press release 3 February 2016

Since the announcement that Andrew Walter and Marcos Ambrose had joined forces to provide assistance for Tasmanian karters to contest the Australian Kart Championship, a massive amount of work has been undertaken to combine all the elements that such a program requires.

Team Director Johnathan Males has been able to bring this concept to fruition which will see four of Tasmania’s finest drivers compete at round 1 of the series in Dubbo NSW this weekend.

Utilising the services of James Sera Karting Centre, the academy has purchased four new FA Karts that will provide each driver with the equipment to not only be competitive but also contest for race victories.

“It is important for our drivers to enjoy the weekend particularly at this elite level. If one or more of our drivers can achieve a top ten result that will be great for their confidence and also the team” said team owner Andrew Walter.

The academy has left no stone unturned in its preparation with all four drivers conducting a full test day at Todd Road last week with James Sera Karting Centre, Marcos Ambrose and Zane Wyatt all on hand to provide kart set up and driver training.

The academy has been able to secure associate sponsors that have helped with the team presentation with race suits and team gear which confirms the team's professional approach to the Australian Kart Championship.

The academy would like to thank Robert Miller (SRT Logistics), Adam Gowans (Gowans Motor Group) and Donald Potter (Motorsport Tasmania) for their support.

“From my perspective we know we have all the right ingredients to make this year a successful one" said Team Director Johnathan Males.

"The commitment and effort from the whole team has been exemplary and I’m proud of the team that’s been assembled in a relatively short period of time. The level of equipment, the support crew and the drivers that will be competing at the first round at Dubbo will I’m sure do us proud no matter the result.

"It’s been too long since competitors from Tasmania have been able to compete properly at a national level and in a small way this venture is attempting to address that issue. The commitment that Andrew has provided this year along with Marcos’ assistance in mentoring the drivers and the support from James Sera Karting Centre and our team partners I believe will provide us with the basis for a great year."

Keep an eye out for team drivers Brody Appleby (X30), Nathan Zuj (X30), Jackson Callow (KA2) and Lochie Dalton (KA4).
