And it looks like a REAL crowd, made up of bona fide spectators - as opposed to the pit crew and family that make up current day crowds... Anyway, the event was won by USA's Lake Speed.   • The new CompKart Australia website (compkart.com.au) has a bunch of kart setup "Pro Tips" technical videos. Produced by J3 Competition, the demonstrations are on Compkart chassis, however the knowledge can be transferred to any brand. All 5 videos can be viewed in the one place HERE.

  • Chaz Mostert will return to the wheel of a kart to assist his return to the wheel in V8Supercars. "Christmas has come early, way back to where it all started with CRG Karts!" he wrote on Facebook. "This is going to be a big part of my rehab. Really looking forward to my first hit out next year!"

  • How do you keep your 'eye' in during the off season? Set up a slot car track that duplicates your local kart track! This is a Launceston Kart Club member's lounge room, practicing for January's Twilight Thunder event, which will run in reverse direction.

  • It wasn't that long ago that Luis Leeds was a karter. Now he races for Red Bull! The 15-year old Victorian has been announced as part of the 2016 Red Bull Junior Team lineup. He has been racing in the Australian and Mexican F4 series and will compete in the 2016 MSA Formula with Arden. More at the redbulljuniorteam website HERE.

  • New kart engine manufacturer from Italy, Techni Engines, present their OK and OK-Junior motors for 2016. Both are 125cc two-stroke water cooled units with 54mm bore x 54mm stroke. The cast iron cylinder has 5 transfer ducts, PVL ignition and internal balance shaft.

  • David Sera dropped in on Tasmanian Ethan Wyllie at Melbourn's Royal children's Hosptial last week. "Good to catch up with my little mate Ethan Wyllie at the RCH today. Kid's in great spirits after major foot surgery. Looking forward to seeing him back in action in 2016!" Dave wrote on Facebook.

  • HDR Arrow Karts has announced that Scott Sorensen will again headline the team in 2016, racing the team's entry in the 'new' KA1 class. "Scott had a great year in 2015 taking back-to-back Queensland State Championship titles, winning the 2015 South Australian State Championship Title and leading the Australian Title for much of the season" said Team Manager, Craig Doyle. "His and his family's dedication to his racing both on and off the track makes him a clear choice for us." Given the team's involvement with the KF2 category over the past five years, Doyle said Sorensen will have a strong bank of engines "when we add the new Vortex Rok DVS 125cc engines to our exisitng IAME and TM engine fleet for the class".

  • SRP Racing has presented the new Modena MKZ engine. The company says the distinctive black (which is an anodized option) engine's most striking feature is the angle of the cylinder "making an increased air flow rate and (keeping) the carburettor straight".

  • TaG Masters has been added to the large list of classes for next month's Australia Day Classic, to run by the Southern Go Kart Club on Saturday, January 23. Lots of laps are scheduled with a Final Only counts format. "The day will award not only the fastest but also the most consistent as we see a new gridding style in the form of the heat 1 grid is determined by qualifying, but then every other race the grid is determined by the finishing position of the last race" the club informed KartSportNews. A free jumping castle will be erected for the kids and camping facilities are available at the track.

  • Vega has been confirmed as the sole tyre supplier for the 2016 WSK Promotion season. They will be used in the KZ2, OK, OK Junior and 60 Mini classes of the WSK series, plus the KRS Open Series. OK and KZ2 will use the Vega Prime, OK Junior will be on the Option while 60Mini utilise the SL9 compound.

  • Patrizicorse has confirmed Jace and Declan Matthews will stay with Ricciardo Kart for 2016. Jace will race in KA2 (was KFJ) while Declan will compete in KA4 (was KA Junior) in the Australian Kart Championship.
