Cadet 9 Qualifying
Thirteen of the best drivers in Cadet 9 took to the track to determine who would start off Pole for the first ever Title for this class at Ipswich and at the end of the 6 minute session the grid was to look as follows; Pole Jack Westbury (#29) 57.280 seconds; P2 Tristan Griffin (#83) 57.358; P3 Marcus Flack (#11) 57.393; P4 Marcus Watson (#7) 57.411; P5 Ethan Feather (#26) 57.504 seconds, with just .224 of a second separating the first five drivers we had something special to witness.

Cadet 9 Heat (12 laps)
There were four drivers who were outstanding throughout this class on the day, Tristan Griffin led the first three laps before Jack Westbury came through and took command to go on and record a win, Tristan Griffin and Marcus Flack keep the large crowd of onlookers glued to the fence line with some great dicing, Flack getting the better of Griffin on the sixth lap to go on and record a second to Westbury by just .540 seconds, Griffin retaining third,  Ethan Feather finishing fourth and a young man that we haven’t seen much of so far today Oscar Targett finishing in fifth, Marcus Flack recorded the fastest time of 56.766 on his tenth lap (which surpasses his previous class lap track record of 57.241 by a massive .475 of a second)  of the scheduled twelve.

Cadet 9 Prefinal (14 laps)
Marcus Flack jumped away and led throughout to secure pole for the final, later on in the afternoon or early evening, the minor placings was were all the excitement was, Ethan Feather held on to second for the first eight laps before dropping two positions back to fourth behind both Griffin and Westbury, Griffin holding onto second for six hectic laps  being chased by both Westbury and Feather, Westbury scavenging third on the last lap over Ethan Feather fourth with Marcus Watson a consistent fifth throughout, Dylan Birse sixth with Oscar Targett the drive of the prefinal from twelfth on lap one to finish seventh, Ethan Feather taking the fastest lap time with a 57.117 seconds on lap seven.

Cadet 9 Final (16 laps)
If we had thought we had seen the best of the racing in this class we were to be pleasantly surprised the final had it all, Marcus Flack held a tentative lead throughout the first eleven laps (I say that with the greatest of respect for this young man) any one of three drivers , had the opportunity to win this final, at one point Westbury was just .068 behind Flack with Griffin a further .289 of a second away in third, Feather started to drop away from the first three on lap four and was never able to make up the deficit throughout the remaining twelve laps, on lap twelve Feather put in a time of 57.335 seconds against Westbury’s  57.457 and Flack’s 57.712 but to no avail, Westbury finally got the best of Flack, one lap later Griffin stormed past Flack to hold second,  Marcus Flack finished third just .419 of a second behind Tristan Griffin and took the fastest lap with a time of  57.083 seconds on lap fourteen of sixteen, all three of these drivers Westbury, Griffin and Flack can be truly proud of their performances on the day, Ethan Feather also a great drive throughout to finish fourth with Oscar Targett in fifth.

Cadet 12 Qualifying.
We were in for something special again with the second of our Title events on the day, a field of 21 drivers presented for the 6 minute qualifying session and at the completion of the session the grid looked as follows; Pole Thomas Cooper (#55) 55.838 seconds, just .03 outside his track lap record set on the 23rd May this year; P2 Riley La Garde (#98) 560207; P3 Jack Grambauer (#72) 56.263; P4 Kai Walker (#35) 56.467; P5 Jai Brown (#19) 56.508 seconds, with just 0.67 of a second separating the first five drivers we certainly were in for something special.

Cadet 12 Heat (12 laps)
Thomas Cooper got off the mark and was not headed throughout the 12 laps of the heat, some great dicing between Jack Grambauer, Kai Walker and Jai Brown throughout for all to witness Jai Brown finish second 8.512 seconds behind Cooper, a mere .035 of a second back to Kai Walker in third with Jack Grambauer just .162 of a second away in fourth, great racing by all, the fastest time recorded by Thomas Cooper 55.879 seconds on lap ten.

Cadet 12 Prefinal (14 laps)
Thomas Cooper is definitely the one to beat in this class and he went on to prove it with a 9.304 second win over the rest of the field, Jai Brown, Jack Grambauer and this time Riley La Garde fighting a good battle over the minor placings, Jai Brown finishing second Jack Grambauer third and Riley La Garde fourth, the fastest time recorded by Thomas Cooper with a new class lap record time of 55.746 seconds on lap thirteen.

Well that’s my report of the Cadet 9 and 12 Title event held at Ipswich Kart Club on the 25th July 2015, hope you all enjoy the read.

Photos supplied by Craig Frith from Loose Cannon Shots, Craig can be contacted on 0434 329 377.

Ben Jenkinson (Qld Restricted 125 Super Heavy #17) stayed back for the draw and won the $1750  after  the completion of the presentation, and indicated to me that he needed it after a bad day on  the track (our congratulations to Ben  on  the win). The prize draw returns to $250 for the next meeting.

Until we meet again please drive carefully and with consideration for all.
