Karting News Briefs

  7 April 2015

  • There has been a change to the race format for the second round of the Victorian Kart Championship at Todd Rd. The Go Kart Club of Victoria advise there will now be an extra heat of racing - ie, instead of two heats and a final, there will now be three heats before the final. Practice and race timetable will be advised once entries close on April 10. A Karting Australia addendum is HERE.

  • IAME CEO Filippo Fagnani was in Melbourne for the opening round of the Australian Kart Championship on the weekend. Here, Filippo (right) enjoys a coffee with Australian IAME importer Remo Luciani in the Patrizicorse/Ricciardo Kart hospitality area.

  • Two Australians, Jordan Boys and Lane Moore, made the journey across the Tasman to compete in the New Zealand Karting Nationals over the Easter break. The IPKarting/Praga Australia pair competed in Rotax Light (Boys) and Rotax Heavy (Moore). Lane won the NZ Title in Rotax Heavy while Boys was 2nd in Light. Jordan was also second in the Yammy class. Lane and Jordan's next outing in Australia will be the Rotax Pro Tour round at Albury/Wodonga on May 1 to 3. Read more of their NZ effort HERE.

  • Grid girls - right or wrong? The World Endurance Championship (think LeMans-style racing) has got rid of them - see the link HERE. More importantly, do grid girls have a place in karting? Some parents don't have issue with their 10-year old alongside a scantily clad beauty. Others do. What's your take?

  • Slideways Go Karting has teamed with Westfield Strathpine (North of Brisbane) to set up a temporary go karting track at the shopping centre over the Easter school holidays. The carpark circuit will be in use until April 26 and is about 350m in length. Slideways' Cam Wilson said that school holiday karting will be rolled out across various Westfield locations during 2015.

  • The Toowoomba & Lockyer Valley Kart Club has cancelled the race meeting scheduled for April 26. It was hoped this would be the Grand Re-Opening for the newly resurfaced circuit. The club advise that over 80% of the track resurface is complete, however there is one remaining problematic area. Poor weather has forced multiple delays for the contractor. "All parties are aware of the importance of this section being completed properly. Contractors have rescheduled to resume works, weather permitting, for April 16th" the club wrote on Facebook.

  • Australian kart manufacturer Arrow leads the way in the Karting Australia Manufacturers Championship after the opening round of the AKC in Melbourne on the weekend. After round 1 of 5, Arrow has 270 points ahead of FA Kart (223), CRG (152), Ricciardo Kart (139) and PCR (81).

  • Spotted at Todd Road on the weekend was Kart Sim's Zach Griffin. While he couldn't go into detail, he was in Melbourne talking with various manufacturers about branding in the game and confirmed they've laser scanned another Australian kart track...

  • There are murmurings on the Go Kart Legends Facebook page of formalising a group to sanction race meetings. Not sure how serious it all is, but they're calling for Expression of Interest to see who's got pre-2000 karts ready to race and who's willing to pay a GKL membership fee to get the ball roling. There's even talk of running Yamaha KT100S and J racing on a hard tyre. Now that could be inexpensive karting...

  • This is Formula K Australia's new 2015 ORG team suit. All suits are custom fit and include driver's name on the front and back. RRP $549. Contact Formula K Australia for the relevant form to fill out.

  • Looking to doll up your vintage F100 kart? Glenn Davidson has a range of reproduction retro karting stickers for various brands and sponsors that were seen on famous 100cc karts in Europe in the past. His 'Kart Stickers F100' Facebook page is HERE.
