The governing body for karting in New Zealand has published a comprehensive report containing detail of its membership, participation, breakdown by class and club, plus much much more. It’s a level of detail we’ve never seen from Australia’s ASN equivalent.
The Kiwis report 1,584 licence holders. This is from a population of approximately 5.3 million people. As a point of reference, for Australia to have a similar per capita licence figure, we would have around 8,300 licence holders.
“As announced at our recent National Conference, licence numbers have remained stable for the past year, with a minor overall growth” the organisation posted.
“A slight reduction was seen in Senior competition licences, while Junior ones grew. Practice licences grew for the seventh year in a row, with 21% of these converting to competition licences through the year, proving that getting drivers in a kart is crucial.
“Annual participation is down on previous years, though this data is also skewed by the changes to the calendar, with some stats due to fall into next year’s report. The South Island has also seen growth, with both Canterbury and Westland powering forward.”
