All three of the Cadet 9 finals of the 2026 Penrite Australian Kart Championship have been nailbiters, and Alfi Lucchetti’s win at Townsville was further proof of the impressive depth of talent in the field.
Despite Alfi falling back to 9th in the first lap, the young Victorian hopes that his comeback in the final will be an echo of his overall championship chase.
“I finished back in 7th at Coffs Harbour which put me 9th in points after round one, so to be sitting 3rd in the championship after not starting the year well makes me think I could hopefully get up to win the championship.”
Under the watchful eye of 18-time national champion Dave Sera, Alfi is learning everything he can to be able to reel-in championship leader Max Gosling who sits 50 points in front with Emerson Mills close behind, and round four at Alfi’s home track at Seymour is perfect timing to chase Max and Emerson down.
“Pucka is my most confident track, and Dave is teaching me how to keep a few tricks up my sleeve and not show the others where I have some pace until I need to use it, so hopefully that will help to get a good result.”

And while Alfi is planning how he can claim a national crown, he is equally determined to win his Club Championship as well.
“I’d love to win the Eastern Lions Club Championship. That would mean a lot to me and so far I’ve won three rounds, had one DNF and finished on the podium at the others,” he says, brushing over the impressive run in April that produced a clean sweep of all the heats and the final.
“The biggest thing I’m learning is patience and planning ahead,” Alfi says, and his dad Johnny agrees.
“He had a clear strategy with Dave to stick with the leaders as the priority, and then look for some gaps to make a move. He did exactly what he was instructed to do, so I can’t ask for any more than that,” Johnny says.

The Eastern Lions Kart Club’s Hume International Raceway is 20 minutes west of Seymour on Seymour Tooborac Road and 10 minutes south of Puckapunyal and offers free entry for spectators along with excellent amenities, and refreshments available for purchase.
