In almost a direct copy of last years event the day started in true Winter Cup fashion, bitterly cold and wet but as the day wore on it slowly dried out… but still bitterly cold!
A small but quality field fronted up to brave the conditions on the fast and flowing Geelong short circuit – one that really suits these high speed retro machines.
The event also doubled as a fundraiser for MND Victoria – between event shirts, MND Victoria merchandise and donations the event has raised over $1000! Qualifying
A wet track saw drivers skate their way around and despite having been out of the seat since March it was Anthony Mrhar who took charge and comfortably claimed pole position from Anthony Sutej and David Makhlout.

Heat 1
The track started to dry but was still very greasy with drivers remaining on wets. Mrhar wasn’t challenged in this one taking a lights to flag victory! Sutej making the most of his good qualifying bringing it home in 2nd while Daniel Richert moved up from 5th to take 3rd place.

Heat 2
A dry line had appeared and drivers were now on slicks but there was still some damp patches ready to catch drivers out. Richert didn’t muck about and moved into the lead straight away and checked out. Mrhar had a consistent but lonely race in 2nd but 3rd place was a battle between Sutej, Danny Wright and Paul Rodgers. Wright and Rodgers swapped places a couple of times early in the race but then settled down and both caught and passed Sutej. Rodgers ending up taking 3rd from Wright and Sutej.

Final
The winner takes all final saw a completely dry track and the pace heated up. Rodgers jumped to the lead at turn 1 after Richert slid wide. Wright passed Rodgers at turn 1 but Rodgers repaid the favor 2 laps later with Wright starting to struggle with a sticky brake. Wright and Richert came together on the next lap which allowed Mrhar up into 2nd spot. Richert then chased down and passed Mrhar to take back 2nd place as Rodgers cleared out. Wright hanging onto 4th and Makhlout bringing it home in 5th.
