The fourth round of the Golden Power Series had to be called off early due to persistent fog at Rochester last weekend.
A delayed start on Saturday saw all classes jump straight into qualifying after lunch, but only half got to complete their first heat before the fog rolled back in.
On Sunday, the fog never lifted. Officials had no other option than to wait, and at lunchtime the meeting was officially abandoned due to insufficient visibility.
Points towards the series were allocated only to those categories that got a race into the record books.
With not much happening on track, what did happen during the down time was the karting family really bonded from a social and entertainment perspective.

The Rochester club is now trying to get some club events up and running at its circuit. Club secretary Glenn Cornell told Campaspe News that the club was looking to partner with nearby Numurkah to hold more events and was working on running competition events beyond the GPS round.
“It’s a highly regulated sport and risk assessments are very important, so you require a lot of officials and volunteers to actually run race events,” he said.
“Officials for a state event like this come from Karting Victoria, but probably in order for us to have regular race events, we need to get some officials, so that’s our next step now.”

ROUND 4 OF THE 2026 GOLDEN POWER SERIES FOGGED OUT AT ROCHESTER
Over 230 drivers headed to Round 4 of the 2026 Golden Power Series at the fast and flowing Rochester Kart Club last weekend the 18th and 19th of July.
Heading to Rochester with clear blue skys and the sun rising on Saturday morning a large low level cloud / fog formation that covered the entire horizon landscape could be seen covering Rochester and the surrounding districts.
With conditions extremely foggy and unable to see a safe distance at drivers briefing the officials had no choice but to postpone the start of the meeting until conditions improved and after a 5 hour wait the fog eventually started to lift, practice 1 and timed practice 2 was cancelled and drivers headed out onto track for the first time straight into qualifying at 12:30pm with the officials getting through as much running as they could, eventually getting through 6 of the heat 1’s before the fog then rolled back through in the afternoon.
Even thicker fog and cooler conditions than Saturday were present during Sunday morning, with the officials deciding to wait until lunch time to make a decision on the meeting and it was at that time the rest of the meeting was called off.
Thank you to everyone for remaining patient and getting through these unusual circumstances mother nature provided us with.
Our thoughts are with the Ristell family who’s grandma had an off track accident on the Saturday of the event, we all hope she is okay and makes a speedy recovery.

The next round of the Golden Power Series takes place at the Goulburn Valley Kart Club, Numurkah on the 29th and 30th of August.
